Post-Match Thread and Ratings Bury 1-1 Southend United

No mistakes and a few good saves - though he was on the pitch when the penalty was awarded so I'm surprised he hasn't copped the blame for that.

Made no attempt to save it though, he's already falling the other way again before it's even been taken, making the strikers job so easy to just stick it the other side.

Don't criticize, you will get slated

It's not the criticism that people don't like but some fans will watch the game almost hoping for something to moan about. The fact that the worse thing someone can say is that they didn't save a penalty would say to me that they had a decent/good game.

Fair comment but there are some that will never see anything wrong in anything he does and that's as bad if not worse.

DWB :smile:. Dam my secret is out I am Smudger! seriously tho i defend him yes because i beleive he gets unfair criticism that is all! he is much improved and his record in a southend shirt is great!

I agree he is looking better than when he first came here. For me though, he always looks like there is a big mistake in him waiting to happen. He is a great shot stopper and made a very good save Saturday but these saves are mainly when no decision has to be made. He does seem to have indecision in him, especially when to come off his line. I can see improvement but I'd like to see more coming off his line and claiming. Here's hoping he gets better the more games he plays.

Ye i agree he tends to be hesitant and then has to make good saves to save is bacon, but its work in progress yes he has had a good run of games but previous to this consistant run of first team football, he has not played regular for near on 3 years apart from a 10 game run with middlesbrough he was 2nd choice behind lee camp at forest and never played so all in all im chuffed with him taking that into account. But like u say i would say that as i am smudge:smile:

This is the bit I find difficult. Why does someone challenging your opinion always have to be "getting slated"? And why does someone standing up for a player mean "they'll never see anything wrong in anything he does"? You are a little prone to hyperbole mate. Whether it's Eastwood or Smith, it's quite frustrating when posters are continually informed that they can't form their own objective opinion.

As for the 'getting slated' bit, there's nothing wrong with having strong opinions, as you often do, but you need to understand they'll often drive a strong response.

Oh No , just when you all thought it safe to re-enter the Zone , the Neil24 v DWB 'Smith Debate' rears itself once again.
Don't worry folks , if you miss it this week , it's sure to be back soon.
Maybe a Christmas Special ?

Actually I think if you read mine and Neil's last couple of posts, there is some common ground there.
