Post-Match Thread and Ratings Bury 1-1 Southend United

Come on Kay, it's now December and we have seen NO form whatseover. Surely people will be asking questions soon or does he have to be revered forever?

Have to agree. He was given the opportunity yesterday and by all accounts didn't deliver. The King is dead long live the King.
He will forever be a Southend Legend but the plain simple truth is that its 2012 and we need to recognise however painful that may be, that Sir Fred isn't performing at the moment.

No. YOU have seen no form. There are those of us who have witnessed Freddy in a team with effectively no midfield or with a woefully out of form Elliot Benyon alongside him who have seen that while Freddy doesn't have the instinct for goal he used to, he possesses a fine footballing brain. He's not had a partner alongside to build a partnership with, or if he has, they've had no service. While it's great that Britt and Tomlin now have an excellent understanding, this partnership has been developed to Freddy's detriment. That's how I see it anyway.

When Freddy has come on as a sub, he's brought games alight with his runs and passing, you just can't see past those blinkers you're wearing.

There are plenty that see it like me. You think a couple of nice flicks means he has found form? He does nothing to warrant a start. There is something not right with him, mentally, physically or both.

That's the problem for me. He has looked the part when he's had a short time on the pitch. When he's started he doesn't seem to have the stamina/fitness/attitude (choose one or more from them) to make an impact. If he doesn't have the goal scoring instinct he once had then a few neat touches, several good runs and a couple of sublime passes isn't enough over 90 minutes. He needs to be able to work harder, track back, chase and give defenders hassle. That was never a strong part of his game and it doesn't seem part of it now. At the moment impact sub seems his best role along with BBBC.

What he said, and what OldblueLady said too. There is still a good squad place for Fred, he can do a job either from start or bench. He makes good space and he will score, I don't know if his fitness is that poor or his attitude wanting BUT I do know that give him a sight of goal and he will shoot with power or know when there is a smart play to make.

I think he still has enough but it needs to be coaxed out and as much as we'd like to think that he is given a chance and grabs it, the reality is that you need gametime to re-develop that. See how it has paid off giving Tomlin time to settle. We need to plan for a Brit sized gap in the team and FA and LDV should give Fred and Barry time on the pitch and we should add to that with proper time off the bench so they are good to go in a months time.

anyone got any team ratings from yesterday from smith right through to fred? curious thats all by all accounts we should of won just some individual ratings would be nice

Yes I think there are, and I think the most important one is the manager.

When we lose Britt in the new year, if we lose him, and Tomlin is not going to play every game, Eastwood, and Corr will maybe have extended runs in the team. Saying Freddy didnt play well in one of game, so back to the bench with him, is a bit unfair, he needs pitch time, if we can afford to give him that time.

I know that Tomlin got in the Sun's team of the day for the FA Cup. They gave him an 8.

agreed i said from the start it was a big risk signing him again as i thought the money could of been spent on someone better, still he still might come good in the end eh:stunned:

Anyone know how smithy did ?

The majority of the team got sixes, I think Smith included and a couple of sevens as well as Tomlins eight. Someone with the Sun can confirm this I should think. i listened on the radio and Smith made a good save in the second half.

As much as he isn't performing now, I'd like to hope he will come good because if Britt goes back in Jan we will need Eastwood and Corr to find form.

He's got 5 months to prove his worthy of a regular starting place in the team. Otherwise come the end of the season, and just supposing he was released, i doubt there will be a rush to sign him?.

30 as it goes plus 4 mins added time!! Lol

My apologies it was as I recall the 61st minute when it started and continued through until after the final whistle without a break, with the occasional energy food ( pie ) being fed to you to keep you going.
The effort from all concerned created an unbelievable atmosphere.
