When I said you were being ignorant, I was trying to point out the fact that you were focusing solely on the negative aspects of the scheme to be pick holes, just like your hero and Ed Milliband, whilst ignoring completely the fact that the scheme will be a massive help to families wanting to move to larger accommodation without being financially ruined.

Your ignorance of this fact was what provoked me into calling you ignorant. I have edited the original post now so that you wont feel so insulted.

And as I mentioned previously, I genuinely hope this particular government programme suceeds. For the record, I also approved of the cuts in beer/petrol duty and the N.I. tax breaks for SME's.
As a builder's son (and a parent), of course I fully understand the natural desire of young couples to own their own homes.
Let's face it,however, Boy Gideon is desperately searching around for anything that might inject some growth into the economy. In this particular case though, I wish him the best of British.

(ps Miliband is no hero of mine.Try Nye Bevan)

Bevin: "No amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party. So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin."
Clearly, Bevin was to open-mindedness what Hitler was to peaceful negotiation.

Bevin: "I read the newspapers avidly. It is my one form of continuous fiction."
Now where is that Guardian link?

Bevin: "Stand not too near the rich man lest he destroy thee - and not too far away lest he forget thee."
No, Bevin. Forget about the rich man and concentrate on yourself. Try standing on your own two feet.

Nye Bevan, actually.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aneurin_Bevan

You're perhaps confusing him with Ernie Bevin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_Bevin
though the quotes are from Nye all right.Nothing wrong with anyone who hated Tories as much as he did,IMO.

You're not normally too concerned with typos but, touché.

He hated those Tories alright, but he was always quite happy to hold his hands out for their money.

Any evidence for that slur? I don't seem to remember reading anything of that sort in Michael Foot's definitive two volume biography of Nye.

What are you talking about? It's the very basis for his politics.

As above...
Bevan: "Stand not too near the rich man lest he destroy thee - and not too far away lest he forget thee."

The only slurs were from Bevan dismissing those with a difference of opinion as 'lower than vermin' and then trying to actually say the phrase 'rob the rich' without dribbling.

Socialism, the politics of hate? Most well balanced people don't base a hatred on an ideological difference, do you usually advocate this level of feeling based on different beliefs? If so, how do you differ from somebody hating Muslims?

I hate Tories, not Christians (unless they're also Tories). :winking:

I believe most people (including you and I) see exactly what they want to see.Nothing more (and nothing less than that).

So, you're implying that you can see it's one thing to hate one person on one ideological difference, yet to hate another for a different ideological difference is totally different? Is that what you're saying?

or is this another case of barna refusing to answer a question because he knows he's been found out? That gets so boring, at least some of us admit when we're wrong (I'm sure anothersurreyshrimper will confirm that I do)

What I'm saying is neither I,you, nor any other poster on SZ has managed to change another person's political opinion on here (or probably any other opinion for that matter).

:off topic:Actually,I did know the difference between Type I and Type 2 diabetes but it's quite true that I didn't know that uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes could turn into the Type 1 condition,if left unchecked.TFTI.

There you go,you've even managed to turn a discussion on the budget round to your favourite topic.:hijacked:

If a person is type 1 they cannot become type 2 you clueless tool but a clueless toll like you with type 2 can become a type 1.
As for being off topic look back over it and see if you can spot where YOU took it off topic.
You really are the gift that keeps on giving.

So tiresome.I've now edited my post to correct the obvious late night mistake. (Btw,are you familiar with the linguistic distinction between an error and a mistake? It's relevant to the "discussion" here).

(No chance of my becoming a Type 1 diabetic (I hope) because -apart from drinking rather more than I should-I look after my health and diet, exercise regularly and take my prescribed medication.

I'm sorry you didn't look after yourself better when you had the chance but that's hardly my fault.

You're in danger of become more boring than Barna. You know that, right?

It shocks me that you actually believe that. I find my opinion influenced (and sometimes completely changed) on here on an almost weekly basis and I'm someone with both strong opinions and convictions. Thing is, I find that to be a GREAT thing. Things change. Different perspectives are liberating. A closed and unbending mind is absolutely nothing to be proud of.

As for the budget, wouldn't it be better to read it with an open mind as to what's in it rather than deciding your opinion on it just because of who's released it? Or waiting to trot out what a journalist for a particular paper thinks you should think? For me, the inability for politicians to focus on the ideas rather than the games is the most frustrating thing in politics.
