It was tongue in cheek...

it was not very obvious Sherif which is one of the problems with the internet. I haven't voted as I'm a bit undecided. If the internet had been invented then Dave Smith would have been sacked before our championship winning season where we were unbeaten in the league at home. There's bit of me that says if you make a mess then it's your responsibility to get out of it. RM will have been thinking since any appointment what do I do if it all goes wrong. What's the contingency. He will have a plan but it might not be the popular one. Football chairman have to have skins like Rhinos.

There's three or four more on that documentary, which should be easy to link up on youtube but if not, let me know and I'll post them.

Think the documentary was called something like "Yours for a fiver" or similar. It is excellent viewing.

yes they run back to back. Sadly it seems the rants did not work and he ended up a cabbie. Still his heart was very much in the right place. I really wish we could hear a few PB team talks. I think they might be in the same vein.

talking about how it all seems so black and white, life or death and how over the top some I feel are going (we're not even yet in the relegation places) it did make me remember a pre internet memory. Basically we were in the same division and were seriously cocking it up. I cannot remember the year or the players or the manager. However what I do remember is that we had to win our last home game to stay up as long as another team lost. Now we did win and the other team were 2-0 (I think) down at half time. This information came through a portable radio someone had. We had a chance. When the final score came through they had won 4-2. The reaction of most was, "Oh **** it. But we should do better next season in the Fourth division".
I'm sure the historians can say which sreason it was or that I dreamt it.

Seems like he is staying for another week! If he was gonna be sacked we'd know by now.

Season 1988/89, Reading won 4-2 after being 2-0 down at half-time and escaped relegation, Southend went down on goal difference.

Yep we got 54 points and went down. We had 48 points with 7 games left but won only the last game 1-0 against Chester.
Changed manager in December but even Webby took us down despite David Crown getting 25 League goals

49 goals conceded away from home with only 3 wins but only 4 home defeats - sounds very familiar and similar to this year's record so far.

Do we think that it is just the compensation issue that stops PB being sacked. Does anyone have a good guestimate as to what this figure is ?

Brown brown were going down

I am going to miss your pithy match summaries.

it must have something to do with it ... of course both RM and PB must both know the figure ..

in a way Phil has protected himself and in way we are held hostage - I think we are probably stuck with Brown - as well as paying him off we would have to pay the new guy something .

make the dreadful Brown try to save his reputation and keep us up -

I seem to remember Dave Martin scoring a header that was my first season remember it well

Absolutely no- he only has 5 months to run on his contract- so thats what would need to be paid up I imagine. What stops him being sacked is RM shows a loyalty to managers that is not commonly seen in the world of football. This in my view is a good thing- but everyone will have an opinion.

I remember we were on the pitch waiting for the Reading result to come through, no phones in those days!

"However, once Brown does sign the new deal, he is keen to immediately make sure assistant manager Dave Penney and first team coach Graham Coughlan follow suit.

“I want them to be the next two to sign after my situation is sorted and I do expect a lot more to be happening in the next two weeks,” Brown added."

who was it who got done fighting outside a club and police involved - Nile Ranger ?

Anthony Wordsworth?

Ryan Inniss?

Dave Penney?

You may need to narrow it down

Shares in blues are like monopoly money.

No real value at all.

There's some value if we can't compel PB to sell.

Have been reading the different "Brown out" threads with interest and would just add a couple of observations:

1. A lot of people want Brown out but have been unable to come up with realistic and affordable replacements for him. If the players don't respect the current manager (if the rumours are true...) then why would they respect Tilson or Coughlan who have not got the same level of managerial experience as Brown has. Surely we will be going with an experienced currently out of work manager...

The not respecting the current manager would seem to be based on experience of being (mis)managed by him. These players didn't come to the club not respecting him, he presumably had to earn that lack of respect by his hypocrisy/double standards/by unfairly scapegoating players in the dressing room/hanging certain players out to dry in public/publicly whoring himself out for three different jobs/his supposed treatment of Barrett/alleged favouritism towards certain players/lack of discipline in the dressing room etc etc. Whilst that's all rumoured I don't know if it is all true (most of it is internet rumours with only an element of it confirmed as a matter of public record) but it doesn't need to be true only that the players believe that it is true.

In contrast Tilly had no real managerial experience when he took over. The players seemed to respect him. I don't think managerial experience is necessarily an imperative.

Again, this is getting ridiculous. Highly likely he does know his best 11. Highly likely he does know his best formation. Highly likely he does and always has had a plan B. The question is only whether or not those three things are going to be good enough for the rest of the season. Can he bring in personnel to make an improvement? There has been plenty of evidence to show that he can or could, just as he has before. It always amazed me how he got us promoted despite his lack of man-management, inability to bring in the right players, inability to choose the right formation, clueless nature, failure to make subs at the right time, loss of the dressing room, blahdy blah, etc!

Personally, I do think we need a fresh impetus as we seem to be in a bit of trouble but I'm not about to start re-writing history about one of the most successful managers we've had at SUFC.

I'm not a believer in making changes for short term impetus but I believe we need to change the long term direction.

It's been painful - like watching a crash in slow motion. You can see the inevitability of it and try to shout a warning but they either can't hear or choose not to and you're left helpless and horrified.

And even when we get round to making the change it isn't going to be the end of it. The oiltanker which was facing the right direction (Wembley!) when the current helmsman took over is now heading towards the rocks: it'll take time to turnaround (as well as fit a new engine now Lenny is gone, plus stop the leaking at the back) and even then there's no guarantee that the new pilot will be able to chart a course in time to save it from it's current path....
