I think the club needs to see which 'Nile Ranger' comes out of prison? Phil mentions pre-season, but I can't see him being out for at least 4 months, unless PB knows something else...

Biggest concern is the easy access to drugs, he'll be bored out of his mind - so I just hope whichever prison he goes to they have a gym and plenty of 'play' areas for him to run around in.

Can we go and visit him in the nick then?

You can put in a visitor order I think. Perhaps we should all "prison sit" him.

I wonder if he'd see fans? Seems to interact well on social media. He needs to know we all still love him I reckon, so joking aside it may keep him on the straight and narrow in clink?

If he gets Chelmsford I could pop in at Lunchtime, as not far from our office.

I could do Woodhill, though I think it'd be more a full time job. :stunned:

I expect Nile will spend time being assessed by the prison authorities then hopefully he will be probably an open prison. He should be released after serving half then released on licence for the rest of the sentence. If his lucky he could be released early than that as the authorities are always trying to thin out the prison population.

The fella has one seriously messed up canister. He has had countless opportunities not just at this club but at all of the others.

He is just a complete wrongun. We promote ourselves as a family club yet we back Ranger who is in reality a bit of a stain.

We should just get rid now and bring in a another striker who can score goals and importantly doesn't have to be babysat. If we was a moral decent human being that would be a big bonus to.

See ya Ranger

To be fair he done this way before he joined Southend (was it early part of 2015?) He was suspended in January this year due to a breach of club discipline, rumoured to be a failed drugs test but never confirmed by the club. Apart from that he has been pretty well behaved since he's been with us.

I've not got an issue with him coming back after he's released from prison, the biggest worry for me is what shape he's going to be in and how long it will take him to get back to match fitness.

Next season should have been the season where ranger kicks on for the team, with a full preseason behind him. Now we don't know whether we will see a fit and focused ranger until late oct/early Nov. I think brown should definitely be looking for another striker and if one comes up that can do the job, then sorry ranger should be out.

Indeed he is - so we have Cox and Fortune who can start for most of the games. Then we may have Ranger and we have Robinson. That is rather an experienced line-up ............ but now that I think about it, the midfield behind and quite how we play (along with questions over creativity and wingers) are important elements.

That's not a bad strike force, no need to panic..... I don't think PB will bring in another striker.

Perhaps you are right .......... but if the "Ranger affair" goes pear-shaped then we are looking a little short in that department ............ so perhaps Browny (Horton) is already scouting for another player ....... or perhaps someone might become available that tickles Browny's interest and is suddenly announced as an unexpected signing.

We lost Mooney and Williams as well, so maybe will depend on whether Ranger comes back and how close any of the kids are to stepping up. I think Norman Wabo and Dan Walker did OK at Cambridge City last year, but that's a level below Chelmsford City and we all saw Jason Williams and Jack Bridge thrive there but look a bit out of their depth when they came back.

My gut feeling is that we should look to sign a young prem. kid on loan as 4th/5th choice striker.

I hope your guts are wrong ............. many of the defenders in this division are seasoned good professional ........ it takes some talent and experience to get past them.

Agreed, but as 4th/5th choice they're not going to get that much game time, and with a bit of talent might be able to produce something extraordinary. I think the previous times we've signed these young kids they've been 1st or 2nd choice (Woodrow, Loza, Pigott etc.) and that never worked for me. I guess though we might struggle to attract decent quality if there is no promise of anything than warming the bench and the odd 5 minutes here and there.
