Gutted I got let down this afternoon from a fellow zoner....but the win softened my disapointment at not attending.

Well done to those that travelled.

Roll on Saturday

Spot on Dave...don't wanna put the bloke down but if Belford made these mistakes then i would forgive him because at least he looks like he likes football.....this bloke...no hope, nervous mouse at 6ft 5, joke Sturrock!

Sorry wiggy but what an absolute joke comment that is and I can't say I'm surprised it's come from you to be honest. So you're saying that just because Belford used to have a laugh and joke with the fans you'd forgive him for the same mistakes that you'd happily crucify Smith for? It really is no wonder you're so unpopular on here, Smith is a decent L2 keeper who fully deserves our support - it's a shame more "supporters" don't spend more time getting behind the team instead of slagging them off at every opportunity.

I despair of people like you, I really do.....

...and i despair of people like you that take 5 months to realise the obvious when it is too late. I don't want to crucify our own keeper after a few weeks but i am afraid that he he cost us a few points already with basic errors and to watch him play it is so obvious that he is not going to help the defence out ever. If you are so gullible to think that he is worth his place then more fool you, my opinion is that he is very poor and i am entitled to that, goodnight.

everyones entitled to there opinions thats fair but to say smith is very poor is utter b******s he is a decent keeper playing for a lg2 team were not going to have the likes of joe hart are we. get a grip. we won tonight lets focus on that.

You cannot argue with his pedigree Wiggy. I don't personally believe good players become bad players overnight. I think a year out of any job and your going to be rusty.

This really should be a female only site given the amount of knockers we have at present. What IS wrong with people? Make the best of what we have, we aren't Ajax FC, and never will be. COYBB

We're a L2 club (yes L2!) and we're lucky to have a goalkeeper of such pedigree at this dreadful level! Considering the fact Smith hasn't played regularly for a while I think he's done pretty well and I only expect him to get better, I (and I can assure you virtually everyone else on SZ!) can't wait for that to happen as no doubt you'll be doing your usual disappearing act when it does. A wiggy-less Zone is always a much happier place.... It saddens me that you are a "supporter" who is more than happy to criticise when things are good or bad, rather than focusing on getting behind the team.

I don't know about Smith making mistakes I just hope he doesn't read the reports on the Zone or the poor ******* would be suicidal, never mind low in confidence.

FFS leave him alone.

I'll bite.

We've won 7 of his 12 matches.

Of the remaining 5, 1 was a goalless draw and 1 he went off injured at 0-0. Presumably not even you aren't going to blame him for dropped points there. So that's 9 of his 12 matches he can't be blamed for the result.

That leaves three games, one of which we missed a late penalty that should have won it.

So, without even looking at the goals we've conceded, at most that's 3 points that he's cost us (1 point v Morecambe, 2 v Barnet).

The goals against Barnet was a Ricky Holmes solo efffort with a great strike - don't think the keeper was at fault for that - and one where their forward got in front of Cresswell at the near post. Again not at fault there.

Didn't go to Morecambe this year, but at most it cost us one point. So that would potentially be ONE POINT (singular) this season he's cost us. This means your claim that he's already cost us a few points (plural) is flawed.

He's not Daniels, but fortunately he's not Morris either.

Come off it wiggy, you love it and you know you do. As a Southend fan I liken you to a "heckler" at a comedy show, you don't go there for the performance you go there to try and cause trouble and be the centre of attention. It's very sad.

Errrhh. Quite pleased to have different views and opinions on here - even if some of them are not "my cup of tea" - it would be a duller place if we spent most of the time agreeing with each other.

I agree that we "lost" 1 point at Morecambe - but I can't blame Smith for that - the whole team did not "get going" and the strikers missed our only couple of good chances ...........
