Hart moved to Man City in 2006 and transfer fees have gone up a lot since then. Jack Butland moved to Stoke in January 2013 for an initial £3.3 million.

Then you are clueless. Their recruitment strategy is the best outside of the Premiership, they have probably the best philanthropic chairman/fan in the Football League, a new ground that's actually getting built and they'll be comfortable in the Championship for the foreseeable future.

Pity they're a shower of bellends, really.

Ouch !!! :winking:

Go count how many clubs have been in administration. The fact that we have managed to avoid it makes us in the minority of League clubs and something that is actually to Ron's credit. We may have been involved in some dodgy dealing, but we haven't had to issue a plea for a whip round to pay the St John's Ambulance what they were owed like Palace fans did once...

This is from 2010. The percentage is even higher now.

That stats irrelevant to the argument. You would need to show what percentage of chairman had been in admin. It would be tiny

Butland can't really be compared. He had had an amazing season at Cheltenham (apart from a horror show at Roots Hall IIRC), was an ever present in goal at a Championship club at the time of the transfer, was first choice for the GB Olympic side and most importantly had a reputation as the best young goalkeeping talent in the UK.

Dan Bentley has none of this.

You what? You are suggesting that all those Administrations are down to just a handful of rogue chairmen who flit from club to club? Those stats are for clubs, not chairmen, and a lot of those clubs have been in Administration several times, which isn't reflected above. You can add to that clubs which have gone out of business, again not shown above, Hereford just being the latest example. Ron Martin isn't to everyone's taste, clearly, but as Chairmen go he is pretty average and has actually done some things rather well. For instance he has continued through thick and thin to develop our Academy, and the charitable youth work that the club does is award winning.

But it's a serious amount of money for a 'keeper who was bought not even to be a first choice just potential (which they both have in common).

If he goes to Brentford then he will be back at roots hall , with Brentford 'B'. as proposed by their ex prickhead chairman

No, in terms of percentage of chairman who have taken clubs into admin it would be small. I'm not suggesting Ron hasn't done anything good but personally I feel he has done far far more wrong.

Not wanting to go off topic too much as my original post suggested that Brentfords owners was the big difference between the two sides and I still state that.

There is no way on earth we would get anywhere near what Butland went for.

Bentley has no experience other than with us.

It would be incredible to get a million, I doubt we would.

Supporters have a habit of overvaluing their players, which mean a lot to them but not as much to others.

Look at Eastwood, we had people claiming we would get 4 million for him. He had Championship experience scoring 16 goals for a team at the bottom of the table, he went for 1.5m, well under what many thought we would get.

definately would have got 5 million for him if i was negotiating it ....

Unfortunately you can only take what people are willing to pay.

We had two clubs after Eastwood and managed to get 1.5 million. Billy Sharp who was the other good striker at the time only went for a little more and had a longer contract.

People may value Bentley at 3 million, but if people only offer 750k you cant do anything about it...

No truth in this, my neighbour works at the club, besides, no one ever believes the daily mail...he wouldn't go for that little anyway

Dan is still very young and won't reach his peak for another few year's,I would be shocked if we received some of the valuations illustrated on here.Good keeper Imo but nothing out of this world just yet and remember he is playing behind one of the meanest teams for conceding in the universe.

Well apart from 4 of the other 6 teams in the top 7 who have conceded the same or less of course.

The other teams in the play offs have all conceded 3 or 4 less than us.

Meanest teams , SUFC play an 11 man defence dont they, well havent scored at home in 300 minutes ,then again neither have their opposition

We are going for, and will get the minimum of one million. Watch and see.

This is exactly how I see it.
