BREAKING NEWS!!!!!

[b said:
Quote[/b] (Leeboy @ Feb. 12 2005,13:02)]it was along the lines of 'everybody supports two teams, don't they?'....

No.

You'd be surprised though, Matt, at the number of regular away travellers - and even perhaps 1 or 2 on the Trust committee - that have indeed followed other teams before Southend became the focal point of their support. Many people used to watch Southend on the Friday and then their 'other team' on the Saturday.

I did just that. The Priory Crescent approval was good news, and the Mayor said negotiations are underway and progressing between Ron and Lansbury. He wouldnt or couldnt really elaborate further, so when we speak to him in more detail, I'll ask him more.

Fair point... although the belief that "everyone" supports two sides is clearly misconcieved, surely?!

As we've opined on this site before, a number of us have got soft spots for a number of sides. Indeed, I supported another team before Southend (namely, Flamengo) because I was living in Brazil at the time.

Of course, I have no problems with Southend being someone's Friday team, and another side (often West Ham) being their Saturday side - unlike some of the yoofs, I see no Southend / West Ham rivalry (recognising instead the only true rivalry, namely the county one).

I was just commenting on the fact that it certainly isn't right to say that "everyone" has a second side. I don't.

Weaver does, apparently... and they're called Southend!

laugh.gif

The only thing he has to apologise for, is confusing his personal allegiances with his Civic Duty. It just doesn't do, if you're the mayor, to be on the front page of your local rag in anything other than (really) your mayoral robes of office.

Sorry, Matt, when you answered 'No' to Weaver's rhetorical question, I didn't realise you meant all of that. I should've read between the lines.

Well, keep an eye out for the front page when all the facts as laid out to me by Mayor Weaver will be revealed.

Crumbs... I get criticised for my long-windedness, and then moaned at for keeping it brief, but then requiring too much reading-between-the-lines...

Do we really have to wait that long? Weaver won't even be mayor by then!

don't worry it will be up there in the next few days.

Oh, there was no criticism, far from it. I always thought, mind, that the addition of a smiley indicated a tongue-in-cheek nature to a post you make.

Maybe I read too much into it
wink.gif

Anyway, we await Mr. Weaver's contribution to this site with interest ...

You initial wait is over my friends the telephone call details are up, next will be the full interview once we have been given a date, as of course you will appreciate a Mayor has quite a busy diary.

So ORM and Overseas Shrimpers

As ever a politician misses the point by a country mile. Just to test his Chelsea affiliations and his love of his second team ask him which Southend player (nay star) was sold to Chelsea and played in the 1955 league winning team. I think he still lives in Great Wakering

I think you will find that it is two,
tounge.gif

Scunthorpe game and Drewenaldo leaving all went up Friday night, and now the Mayor story.

I suggest you get your own house in order before criticising others. A winless manager this far into the season usually ends up getting the vote of confidence from the Chairman.

Which of course I have every confidence in you to have a 100% record this year.

Mayor? Surely you mean Maher? I know ORM would agree that he should be both.
