Agreed .

Unfortunately , Holloway must also come on here and spotted our interest, He has now made Hayles captain so I think we can kiss that one goodbye

I've got an unfortunate suspicion that you can kiss any sort of 'name' goodbye.
For a club that made more money last year than ever before without the eastwood peanuts. Notwithstanding the outstanding debt (which i believe is all owed to company/ies owned by RM ).
It appears to be pretty tight fisted. Some may say carefull, prudent, not wanting to get in trouble again, etc etc, but SUFC should be way better off than many clubs in the football league that appear to have no trouble attracting good players. So now bradbury has gone cos he didn't fancy the drive to work? WTF is going on?

I honestly don't know how some clubs are managing to pay what they are. I can only assume they are borrrowing to gamble which I've always believed was a stupid idea. Apparently Col Ewe are paying Teddy about £6k a week. There's no way on earth that their income through the turnstiles, or from sponsorship is paying for that.

Even if we could stretch our budget, how do you bring a "name" like Byfield in with his "fair whack" wages. If you paid him what we wanted I wouldn't think it would be long before Maher, Gower and others were taking unhappy looks at their wage packets.

The only way to get a big-name player in is to structure some sort of deal that means he gets the same sort of wages as the other members of the squad but with some sort of signing-on bonus, or performance-related pay element to it.

To be perfectly honest I'd prefer us to be looking at bringing in players from League 2, Conference, or the SPL. You just to accept though that some of these will turn out to be plums rather than Golden Eggs.

Francis Drake

Naming a 16th century guy really is showing your age

Would be a bad siging in my view. He might want to go and rejoin his family on the south coast after 2 years

Why do we have to accept that?
Are you telling me that southend united as a club with RM, whom whether you like or loathe him, you cant deny he appears to be a shrewd business man, cant structure such a deal?
With all due respect SB, I get the feeling this club needs some exciting news and pretty damn quick! Otherwise i can foresee a pretty sharp fall in attendances!

Spot on, the feelgood factor is at it's lowest since we were struggling in League Two, and something or someone big needs to help rectify that.
