Boxing rumours - Hatton/Khan/Haye

Can't remember all the fine details, but IIRC there is already something in place that says, if Haye beats Wlad, he'll face Vitali in October. This is the fight he's claimed will be his last.

Oh really, I thought it was just it Wlad drops out then Vitali steps in. I wonder if it will still have to be staged in Germany then, or if that's to be decided.

This will be Haye's biggest test so far. His jaw still hasn't been tested at this level, so it'll be interesting to see how he copes. Most of the bookies have Haye as odds on to hit the canvass at least once

Haye's hit the canvas and got up to win before, but as you say, his chin hasn't been tested at HW.

I go through stages of optimism. For a while I was really doubting whether he had a chance, recently I've been feeling a lot more optimisitc and fancied him to provide a shock. Now as we're making our final preparations to go out there, I'm starting to doubt again -ps. GBJ you're not helping haha!!

IIRC, i'm sure a deal was put in place already? It might not be legally binding, but I thought it was a "gentleman's agreement", that they'd do it in October. Also, I'd say it'll be a big venue, not Germany, maybe Vegas, or Madison Square Garden possibly?

LOL I aim to please

As it happens, on a last minute spur of the moment (drunk) 3 of my mates are roadtripping across to Hamburg on Friday morning. I could have gone, but couldn't raise the funds/blag it, in time :'(

money wasted then!

Clitchko was a different class and Haye really didn't threaten.

Agreed. I had Haye to win in the 4th, 5 and 6th and Klitschko in the 8th, 9th and 10th, all at roughly 25/1. I thought that was pretty good value at the time but it turned out that Haye's strategy to land "one big punch" was entirely misconceived.

Oh, and spare me the bollox about a broken toe :zzzzz:

At least I won some money

Nicely done. It was a cracking weekend even despite Haye's showing. Well until we got out the stadium to find out they'd fogotten to put on any trains and had to wait in the pouring rain for two hours for the police to get the trainline to put some on...double disappointment.

As big a shame as it was, I can understand the toe issue, and he was quite graceful in defeat, so I don't really have too many gripes with him.

Lol I thought the toe excuse was laughable. A small toe with localised anesthetic, shouldn't hamper him really. As I said on FB the other day, Ali fought with a broken jaw, Paulie Malignaggi went 12 rounds with a shattered eye-socket, Holyfield went 12 rounds with a torn rotator cuff and Joe Frazier won an Olympic Gold Medal with a dislocated thumb. All serious injuries, where the fight could/should have been stopped.

Wlad had it spot on, Haye was checked over by the medical commision, and was certified fit enough to fight. If it was honestly that bad, there's no way he'd have been allowed inside the ring.

I have some sympathy if indeed he had a broken toe.

It is going to hamper you from throwing punches far more than a broken jaw or a shattered eye socket (assuming you can still see out of both eyes), although they are more serious injuries, because if you're not committing fully to one foot you aren't going to be fully committed to the punch. So whilst it's not the most serious injury (and therefore one which necessitates the fight being stopped) it does hamper performance.

But if we're talking winning whilst handicapped by injury, I give you disclaimer: I think this is the right one, youtube is blocked at work so I can't check

Tara fought with a cracked rib last Saturday so he informed me so I have no sympathy for the Toe.

Incredible from Danny Williams, (not often said that) showed real bravery and heart.

As for the toe fiasco, Haye's made himself look a fool. As I mentioned before, the medical board checked Haye over and declared him fit. If it was that bad, then they wouldn't have let him go in there.

Secondly, again, if it was that bad, why would Haye have risked it? He should have pulled out, without question. It's disappointing to the fans who're travelling, but this is your career/legacy you're putting at stake.

He was still throwing big punches, and he was still moving very quickly around the ring. Did you see the post-fight press conference? That was laughable aswell, he soon jumped up on the table without any problems, but was unable to "push off" during the fight? :hilarious: (you don't push off on your little toe anyway, you push off the ball of your foot)

It's just the Hayemaker Hype Machine angling for a rematch, that he just doesn't deserve.

I think it's the "champion's" attitude that you need to have in professional sports. You need to believe that you are the best, that defeats aren't your fault. You can't afford to have doubts about yourself. That's why it wasn't Haye's fault; it was the injured toe.

That's why Jean-Francois Christophe says he thinks he can play in the Premier$hite as he needs to believe that and that's why Luke Prosser had his struggles because he doesn't believe that. When you start to doubt yourself you become hesitant and sport's no place to be hesitant. Haye was probably 90% fit, but he probably didn't fully trust his toe.

He probably should have pulled out - if only because he hadn't been able to spar properly - but his champion's confidence (aka arrogance) probably made him think that he could still beat Klitschko, even when not fully fit.

Every sportsman needs to have that confidence, I agree. But the toe thing is a poor poor excuse. It's nothing more than an angle for a potential rematch.

Richard Schaefer, Cheif Exec of Golden Boy, had this to say... "I wouldn't have shown the little toe had I been there. It's ... the little toe."

Haye was beaten, because he's not a truly great HW. He's a brilliant cruiserweight, but he just hasn't got the required technical attributes to beat a fighter like Wlad.

Great return for Kevin Mitchell at the weekend, stopping highly rated John Murray in the 8th round. Hopefully he'll now push for the rematch with Katsidis.

Got some interesting fights this weekend coming.

Amir Khan vs Zab Judah -
Judah is probably past his best, but still has the capabilites to give Khan a rough ride. Khan hasn't got the KO power at this weight (140lbs) but he still retains that speed and jab. I'd like to see Judah go for it and really test Khans jaw. He was out on his feet against big-punching Maidana, so Zab, theoretically, could put Khan out for the count. Head says Khan on points, Heart says Zab with a brutal KO in the 8th/9th

Tyson Fury vs Derek Chisora -
British HW title up for grabs in this one. There's some real bad blood between these two. I reckon it's gunna be a proper slugfest. They've both got the capabilities of knocking the other out in brutal fashion. Tough one to call. Chisora is the favourite at the bookies, but if Tyson is in good shape, and has really worked hard, then I'll be backing him. I'm off to this one, and i'm expecting an electric atmosphere. What happens when you mix northern travellers and London wideboys? Should be interesting to say the least.

One of the best fights I've seen in ages, thought Mitchell did excellently, and Murray played his part too. Hopefully he's back on the staright and narrow now and can concentrate on making himself a World champion.

I've lost interest in Khan lately, in fact the only person who really seems interested in Khan these days is Khan himself, as the televising of his McCloskey bout/farce showed. He was fortunate against Maidana, and if Judah takes a similar approach Khan could be in trouble. I can't really argue with your forecasts either, although I'm hoping it's a Judah knockout.

Tyson has been mouthing off massively on Twitter mugging off David haye, Dereck Chisora and anyone else he can think of. It made my day when my brother posted a video of him punching himself in the face in a previous fight on FB last week. Tyson is acting like a grade A nob & I actually hope Chisora wins this by knockout, early as well, 4th or 5th round. I was actually in the process of buying tickets for this as well, wanted to see Fury gets knocked out up close and in the flesh, and as I was hovering over the pay button I suddenly realised why the date was ringing a bell. It's the other halves birthday. Phew, dodged a real bullet there. Shame, could've been an excuse to meet up for a beer or two. I'll be SKY+ing it, though that doesn't even touch on my jealousy at you going, have fun dude.

Also I'm quite excited that Kessler has announced his next fight. A WBO title fight with Robert Stieglitz. Kessler is always good value for a scrap. Hoping this is in Denmark as I'll be all over that if it is.

Yeah was a cracking fight. Best I've seen since Pacman-Margarito last year(?) Hope Mitchell can crack on now and fulfill that potential. I thought he was excellent all night. Took the big punches well, and ducked and weaved brilliantly when backed into a corner. Almost Mayweather-esque at times. Hopefully a rematch in the pipeline against Katsidis, then defend against Murray at The O2.

Can't argue with that. Khan is such an uppity little **** at times (as you pointed out with the whole Sky debacle). I'm really looking forward to this fight. Zab really does have the ability to rock Khan, but it will all depend on what kind of Judah shows up. If he's just in it for one final swansong, then it'll be a textbook (points) win for Khan. But if he shows up looking to prove a point, and is willing to bust a gut, then Zab could well end it inside the distance.

LOL I actually like Tyson. He comes out with some quality stuff. He reminds me of Haye, but is more likeable. (Saying that, my only gripe with Haye was his abuse of his own fans)

Shame mate, could of had a few beers indeed. I'll be stopping at King's Cross on my way, to go in a little place called The Flying Scotsman. I've heard all kinds of shenanigans go on in there

Never really been a fan of Kessler. Bags of potential, but shows little of it. Ok, he does like a scrap, but he's never impressed me in truth.

Did you see the weigh in? Chisora has come in at 261lbs, which is 20lbs above his usual fighting weight, and looks well out of shape. Quite disgraceful really. He's ment to be a professional athlete. Considering the winner of this bout will likely go on and fight Wlad, plus earn themselves something around the £1m mark, for him to come in like this, is mental.

Advantage Tyson now, who came in looking pretty good for a guy who's 6'9, and weighs 255lbs.

Get your money on a Tyson (T)KO, as it's money in the bank
