Boxing rumours - Hatton/Khan/Haye

So, guess who got a ticket to see Haye fight in Hamburg???

Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh baby!!!!!!!

Sorry, needed to get that off my chest!

Nice. I'd liked to have gone (same as Groves/De Gale on Sat) but with Vegas 2 weeks away, getting the money together for Hamburg became impossible. Have you ever been abroad for boxing before? You should get a really good atmosphere. Inside the arena will be electric no doubt.

Just hope for your sake, and those also travelling, that Haye puts on a show. Personally I'm sticking to Wlad on points.

Oh, bit of advice, if you get an opportunity to go to the weigh-in, do it. Trust me you won't regret it

Ha, yeah it's proving to be a tight month, what with Haye, De Gale, Scotland Tour, Olympics...I was kinda hoping to put some money away in the close season.

Hmm, that doesn't fill me with confidence for the trip given you were spot on in the last fight! I'm hoping you're wrong this time out.

We're going on a mini-beanie, 8 of us in a coach, so we have our own timelines, but I'll definitely look to catch the weigh in if we can. First boxing trip abroad, can't wait for the atmosphere.

Another blow for Khan...

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12183_6935332,00.html

Judah has his eyes on a bigger prize. What with the demotion off PPV, and then SKY completely for the McCloskey fight, the knock back from camp Bradley and now this, Khan must be worried that he's lost his appeal completely. And with not many out there left to fight (that will boost his credentials anyway) you gotta wonder what/who is next for him?

....and to think Roache was trying to big up a Khan Pacquiao match up.

Yep the Scotland trip looks impossible for me atm. Unless i have a right touch on holiday or course.

The bookies seem to fancy Wlad to win by (T)KO, but I much prefer their 7/2 for Wlad to win on points :)

From what I've heard, Bradley has blanked Khan because he's trying to set up a showdown with Pacman (I've also heard Floyd's name mentioned though). Maybe Khan will look at a rematch with either Prescott or Maidana. I'd love to see a rematch with Maidana.

On a seperate note - a few fights possibly in the making - Mayorga vs Kirkland. Two big hitters, neither has exceptional defence. Has all the makings of a slugfest. Brilliant. Also Nathan Cleverly could be in line for a potential showdown with Bernard Hopkins, if both fighters win their respective fights this weekend.

Exciting weekend of British Boxing to look forward to. Firstly, Nathan Cleverly takes on Tony Bellew. Can't really see much other than a Clev win. Go for an early stoppage, say 4th round

And the other big one, DeGale takes on Groves. Nothing but a DeGale win here. I'd say stoppage in the 7-8th round

You are no doubt right on the De Gale fight, but there is something about him I don't like and I would like to see him knocked out......

It's all an act with DeGale. Apparently he's ment to be a genuine, decent guy away from the cameras. I know what you mean though. He does come across as a **** on TV.

I've heard the same about De Gale, he acks the **** to get the press but is a down to earth guy (although a bit dim) away from the cameras.

Bellew didn't make the weight which is a shame, it's now Clev's third opponent, Aleksy Kuziemski - I reckon an 8th round TKO, with De Gale, I reckon way too much for Groves 5th or 6th round stoppage.

Look out for me in the crowd...I'll be the good looking one!!!

Aint gunna lie, i'm jealous I wasn't there last night. Great main event. I personally thought it was a draw. That said, I thought Groves was superb. His movement was top-notch, great defence and brilliant aggression. DeGale was too complacent. If he showed the intensity like he did in the 8th round, throughout the fight, I think Groves would have been seeing stars. I heard Frank Warren wants to push for a rematch, which IMO would be the fair thing to do, but don't reckon Groves' camp would want it, and I don't really blame them. Would like to see Groves kick on now and forge a decent reputation.

Thought Clev fought well, but showed his defensive frailties in the 3rd. Ian Darke called him "reckless but exciting", and I think that sums him up perfectly. The stoppage was BS though.

Was funny to watch Kevin Mitchell and Murray showing their dislike of each other. Also, I hope footage of Derek Chisora and Tyson Fury fighting IN THE CROWD show up on youtube or something.

Staying with boxing - Bernard Hopkins beat Jean Pascal last night to make history. The oldest Champ of all time. At 46 you've got to give him immense credit.

Atmosphere was amazing Saturday night, the pro Groves brigade were out in force and it made for an electric night. Thought the bout was a tie, although my Groves supporting mate thought De Gale had won it. I shared the same views as you on the rematch knowing that Groves having won amateur and professional will refuse saying he has nothing left to prove.

De Gale boxed immaturely, he got riled by the whole event and let it effect him. Rather than the cold finisher he is, he became nervous and didn't box to his strengths, whilst Groves just grew in strength and confidence throughout.

The Clev fight would of been the fight of the night if not for the farcical stoppage. It was bitter sweet for me as I had him at 10's to win in the fourth, but was thoroughly enjoying the fight and gutted it was finished so early, especially as both fighters were slugging it out. Pleased for Clev though, he needed a crowd pleasing performance after his last fight against that French fella.

The Fury Chisora crowd fight was brilliant. I'd seen Chisora about 5 mins earlier and pointed him out to my mate, then all of a sudden all the security guards were rushing down there (they can't of been relishing this job), you could see them squaring up to each other, when for no reason at all, Fury ripped off his t-shirt in some random act of machoism, bless. Either way, it'll be settled the same night as the Mitchell fight as they are on the same bill now.

Me too, even though it was a different opponent in the end

As soon as I'm back from Vegas i'll be looking to get tickets for this. This should be a brilliant night

Brilliant - that's my favourite read today. Let's hope Khan drops his demands (after the SKY BO debacle from his last fight, I'm suprised he's still so full of himself) and fights him.

I was thinking about going to the Murray/Mitchell, Chisora/Fury fight, but seeing as I'm in Hamburg the weekend before it'll be a last last minute decision for me when I'm back, especially as they are priced the same as the the Groves/De Gale/Cleverly night - nice one Warren!!

On the Mitchell front, it's nice to see him back in the ring after his out the ring troubles, I'd been a fan of his early on and after he beat Prescott I really thought he was gonna move up and quickly. Hoepfully with the intervention from his parents, he'll be able to use that loss to Katsidis to his advantage and spur himself on to better things, he definitely has the ability.

Another star performer from the other night I forgot to mention was Billy Jo Saunders, he was excellent, another that showed promise had problems (injuries not booze) and is back on the circuit and looking sharp again.

The fight I am looking forward to however, is the Bellew Cleverly fight. There's nothing like a grudge match and these two really dislike each other, it's epitomised by Bellew's statement in the link below; "I genuinely cannot stand the sight of Nathan Cleverly. When I see his face I want to punch it. I don't like it."

http://www.frankwarren.tv/index.php/news/fwtv-news/latest-news/1185-bellew-clev-running-scared.html

I really hope this goes ahead, and if what Bellew said about the Box Office is true, then it should only be a matter of time.

Carl Froch tonight, tough fight against Glen Johnson, I've got my bets are on 7th and 9th stoppages for The Cobra. Kessler is on as well, he's normally an enjoyable boxer to watch.

Big one this weekend. Wlad looked very calm and confident at the press conference yesterday. Haye was stuttering and stumbling over his words again, (read into that, what you will). It'll take an immense performance for him to win this I feel. I believe either can win by KO, but in all honesty I just can't see it happening.

Haye's chances - powerfull, fast and has the stamina. He NEEDS to take the fight to Wlad. He needs to impose himself early on and ruffle Wlad's feathers. If he allows Klitschko to settle in, sit behind the jab, and wear Haye down, then there will only be one winner. Haye will not win on points (Not in Germany) so he has to throw caution to the wind IMO.

Wlad's strategy - As I said, I expect him to sit behind the jab, keep Haye at a distance, and wait for Haye to make a mistake. Wlad is very disciplined and isn't likely to deviate away from that tactic/plan too much. He'll settle for a points win all day.

I think Wlad will take it on points, and at 4/1, i'll have a little punt on that.

Looking forward to the weigh-in on Friday. I expect a bit of aggro there, especially if Vitali decides to have his say

Lennox Lewis has a lot to answer for. He was undoubtedly a great (the last great heavyweight IMO), but heavyweight boxing's never been the same as it's been dominated by lumbering giants hiding behind their jabs. It desperately needs Haye to show that speed and mobility are more important than reach. Or for another Lewis who had speed and size.

Agree totally, but I don't believe Haye is the man to take HW boxing forward. Technical reasons aside, he plans on retiring in October.

Can't see where the next "big thing", is going to come from at the point in time. HW boxing is dead.

This is a sad truth and one of the reasons there is so much clamour over this fight. I'll be interested on Haye's stance on retirement if he does win and Vitali then steps forward. Would he be able to resist one more bout against Vitali.

As for the Fight, I'm in agreement that Haye needs to get in early and impose himself, I'm a little bit too optimistic of Haye's chances I think. Klitschko does go down when hit, and Haye does have the speed and the power so there is a good chance he can win. The other advantage Haye does have, is that he knows how Wlad will fight. There will be no tactical surprises, and it means he and Booth (who will have almost as big an impact on the fight as Haye himself imo) have had plenty of time to work on breaking down the stand and jab tactic Klitschko has had so much success with.

I'm not sure if it's just lip service, but most of the pundits (Hatton, McGuigan, Nelson - British ones admittedly) seem to favour Haye to get the early knock down. Again, Haye's speed proving to be his biggest attribute in their opinions.

I've got Haye in 5th at 16's so far - but again that's the optimist in me. Will have Wlad on points as a covering bet as well. Either way, I'm as excited as hell over this one. Shame it'll be the last one for a while in the HW's.

Can't remember all the fine details, but IIRC there is already something in place that says, if Haye beats Wlad, he'll face Vitali in October. This is the fight he's claimed will be his last.

This will be Haye's biggest test so far. His jaw still hasn't been tested at this level, so it'll be interesting to see how he copes. Most of the bookies have Haye as odds on to hit the canvass at least once
