Official Match Thread Boston United vs Southend United ABANDONED DUE TO FOG

Just got home, never been to an abandoned game away from home beforeā€¦and it was my 100th stadium watching Southend. I guess it counts šŸ˜‚..as the game started!
I still count Accrington as I entered the ground, despite the only football watched that day being at ewood park

I was going to say that I don't think I have been at a game that has been abandoned ..... but your post triggered my memory.

I remember that game - all was well until a mini-monsoon just before the game. The game started but it was clear the ball wasn't travelling across parts of the pitch within minutes of the start. The rain was still falling & the game was abandoned.

I think I remember Phil Brown coming across to the away fans to clap us before we headed out of the ground.
Yeah, was an absolute deluge that caused it. Like a monsoon. Was it the replay that David Worrall scored the free kick in? Or was that another seasonā€¦

In which I claim Barrow and Workington.
It was the middle of summer and on holiday in the Lake District, there were no games, but I was allowed in both grounds to have a reccy!

Does anyone remember a game in the sixties away to Northampton at the old County Ground. The game was abandoned after one of the floodlights failed. It could probably have continued with just the other three working but the referee thought otherwise.

Using the live chat line I now have a refund approved. Ain't technology wonderful when it works.

1980, I think you'll find. It was their first match with their new "improved" floodlights.

29th August 1980

Yes - that was possibly (in my experience) the worst cancellation/postponement of the lot.

Professional league football pitch unplayable due to rain either the previous day or night (I think) ...... good weather for the game ........... decision for the game to not go ahead made only once everyone was there (including Ron Martin - remember him?) ........... and yet there were Saturday afternoon park games taking place just along the road.

The disgrace! [gurning face]
