Post-Match Thread and Ratings Boston 3-0 Southend United

I predicted a setback tonight on yesterday's play-off thread, but it was the manner of defeat tonight that I find somewhat worrying.
There are several questions I would like the local press to ask Kev (I know it won't happen).
1) Why does our second-half performance drop like a stone?
2) when we go a goal down it is more or less game over. Tonight the players performance levels plummeted after we went 1-0 down.
3) why do we persist with a formation that rarely works?
I feel sorry for the likes of Wind and even Bridge who both could add a bit of width to the play. Scott-Morriss had so much of the ball down the right flank in the first-half but we barely saw him in the second. Obvious replacement in Wind but Kev can't see it.
It really was a game of two halves tonight but also a game of two styles.
Although you could say Boston's was more basic it was certainly more effective.
FInally, a nice ground for this level apart from the missing 4th side, but I am still hoping that I won't have to return next season even if Boston stay up.

Well if talk of a financial problem is true then thats the only way in my eyes Maher will be with the club as manager also that goes for 75% of the part time players at this club . Part time you say ,well most have shown they can only play for 45 minutes. Dire signings in Goodliffe ,Hopper and Gubbins tell me theres something amiss with our scouting team, Now lets sit back relax and see what Saturday brings. We really need a complete overall off season but it wont happen due to financial restraints it seems, Think the thread who to keep and let go needs to be reopened .

There cheap nasty signings which 2 of them have come from col u reserves...... I knew Hopper would be crap signing, a 30+ something who past it with history of injuries! We don't seem to learn from previous mistakes. Yes I'm all for experience around the building but not col u rejects who haven't got much to give anymore. I hope our recruitment will improve in the summer but I'm not to optimistic on that front.

We are a half decent mid table side that lacks a cutting edge to score enough goals to get the result needed.Tonight showed that in abundance decent first half showing poor second half we made Boston looked good.We may make the play offs by some poor results by other teams some how cant see it.We don't seem to change our play when others teams do.Coughlan saw that Gus was having a field day in the first half he change it second half and Gus was lacking any creativity in the second half.
Sorry to be so negative but that's how I see it we aren't good enough this season to get promoted

In order to be able to sit down at the match ( I can't stand for any length of time any more), I bought a ticket in the main stand at the other end of the ground from Southend's standing supporters, in amongst some of the regular Boston supporters, so I had a good view of Southend's attacking players in the first half. My view and the view of the Boston fans sitting near me was that Southend should have been ahead at half time. On three or four occasions, Bonne left their left back for dead when he got the ball on the right wing, Chambers-Parillon and Appiah-Forson both got us into promising positions BUT the final ball into the Boston penalty area was either missing our players completely or was fluffed by them if it did reach them. Both Hopper and Bonne had chances that they should have put away but didn't. It was clear from the very start of the second half that the Boston players had been told to push up in greater numbers on our defence. Their first goal was a stonking shot from the edge of the box from a player who had not been closed down by our midfield. I wouldn't blame Hayes for not stopping that one but he should have done better with the second, as should our defenders. Although we had a lot of possession in the second half we didn't seem to pose a threat. If we had put away the chances that we had in the first half I think that Boston's heads would have dropped, rather than them coming out pumped up for the second half.

Although Boston are in the bottom four, they had lost only one of their previous 8 league games, picking up 15 points, making them one of the division's current form teams and the only team Barnet have failed to beat since mid-January. They and their fans are full of confidence that they can avoid the drop and their tails are up. In the second half today our tails were between our legs.

Although he got a few decisions wrong, more often in our favour than Boston's, I have no complaints about the referee. He kept the game flowing well. A good word, too, for the Boston players, who did not employ thuggery and did not over-dramatise things when they were fouled.

Same old story.

We need a proper finisher.

Without one we continue to miss big chances and allow the opposition to get a foothold in a game that should already be put to bed.

Without one, we aren’t serious contenders for anything.

Get one in the door this summer please COSU.
My thoughts exactly. Had we gone in 1 up at half time, Boston heads drop and it’s a different game second half.

Other than that, we need to strengthen the backline. Goodliffe looked very poor tonight and gave Boston the belief that they could get a goal. At least col u can pay his wages next season.

Just home after a long and frustrating evening along with 396 other Shirmpers there tonight. First half we dominated and played some lovely stuff. Don’t know what was said at Ht but the second half was dreadful and we fell apart. Second half performances are becoming a bit worrying. Alty at home, Eastleigh Saturday and again tonight. We seem to be fine first half and although we didn’t score tonight I fully expected us to come out second half and win the game. We played some decent stuff first half and could have had the lead. But Boston came out sharper and wanted it more second half. Hayes maybe at fault for the second goal but in truth those infront of him did little to help.

Don’t see the logic in playing Hopper central, Bonne right and Leon left. It just doesn’t seem right. KAF was the pick of a bad bunch tonight, Bonne did ok first half and Morton also had a decent game but he so often had the ball at his feet but there was no movement in front of him especially second half so he had to keep going back. Gubbins is clearly not a left back. Goodliffe won a lot of headers but isn’t as sharp on the ground. Taylor didn’t have his best game. Gus did ok and was the pick of the back 4. Leon did well and then not so well but we need to accept that he may be like that at times.. unlucky at 2-0 not to score with a good run and shot. Hopper offered little. Husin was poor all night and yet again stayed on and Morton taken off to a chorus of boos from some.

Subs made little impact. Walker isn’t the answer and needs off loading. Just hasn’t worked for him. Miley needs more minutes to get fit. Kendall had little service

So it’s 1 defeat in 10 and results at least went our way tonight but a win would have been massive. Saturday like all remaining games is huge and we need to put tonight behind us and go again against Oldham. As good as the fans were Saturday it was dead tonight. Need the NB to be rocking from minute 1 Saturday

So that’s alright then we’re Southend united the fact that losing 3 nill in a pup league has become accepted is a joke it should be a sackable offence but it won’t cause there’s no real ambition to get us out this crap league
It's that sense of entitlement that makes our opponents relish nights like this.
How far up the pyramid would you like us to be before you stop being so condescending about our opposing teams?
