''Jason Williams is a veteran compared to McQueen''- really?
McQueen has played 50 times in the Premiership U21s (slightly higher level than our U21s) and has been on the bench earlier in this season for the Europa Cup. He is part of the Southampton first team squad which again is probably somewhat more promising than being an unused member of our first team squad.

Of course no guarantee of success but he's no kid - 21 in a couple of weeks and has netted 4 in 8 in the Premiership U21s this season

Oh that must be the U21 league where Southampton have won four of their twelve games and McQueen has not even been in the squad for the last two games. But I am not slating him. Just stated I was unable to appraise the signing given no form to go by.

Must be highly rated if he signed a 4 year deal.

It would be great to get a decent relationship with saints as they have one of the best youth set ups in the premier league.

Their kids get games and we get classy youth players. Win win

We have a relationship with them Ted smith has played 2 matches for them at under 21......against Everton,Aston Villa

Why don't you wait and see for yourself, like most sensible fans will.

Excellent news if it's with a view to a permanent move.

Disappointing news if it's not.

Anyone know when his contract is up?

Also, what's happening with McLoughlin?

Well oddly I will be waiting to see for myself. Oh does that make me sensible? I have not attempted to slate him. Merely saying that U21's mean little, Coulthirst anyone, and I might, at this stage, had hoped for someone that had a loan experience by the age of 21 to use as a benchmark. I wish him well and am first in line to hope he lights up our season.

You will of course be first to slag him and PB if he doesn't. So its a win/win situation for you.

Our record with their youth products is actually pretty checkered.

Matt Patterson was really poor, whilst Ben Reeves was popular he flattered to deceive and Flahavan's shortcomings were only masked by a top class defence for part of his stay.

There was also Adam Wallace (exactly!).

If you spent more time discussing/ challenging a post, and less time trying to belittle or ridicule the poster, I would probably be aligned to more of what you say. It's you, not me, that has talked of slagging the player off and brought PB into the arena. Your view of others is extremely unbalanced and you troll posts to attack anything you feel may detract from Brown. In your mind your view is superior so may I suggest you keep it within your mind as it is wasted on mere mortals such as myself.

That's exactly what I did. I asked you to give the young lad a fair chance, as you have already put him down by dismissing his under 21 games and wrongly claiming Jason Williams is more experienced.

Lets not have another young player with some potential, that prefers to play away from RH before we even start.

I also said several times I want him to do well. The point of a forum is to discuss things and I was trying to discuss the fact that we are bringing in a virtually untested player, who may or may not be a world beater, but in January, with recent points slipping away, it may be a bigger risk than someone already blooded at a more competitive level. If you wish to see that as a slagging, then that says more about your own agenda. For me it is risk, I hope it pays off and time will tell.

In terms of competition, Jason Williams by virtue of his loans, is more experienced. That does not mean I want JW to play.

Stanley Victor Collymore and Freddy Eastwood were 'virtually untested' players....

Stan's 20 games for Palace and Freddy's 50 odd for Gray's were in competitive matches that meant something and could be used as a benchmark. Even JW with Chelmsford felt a determined boot or two from seasoned players in competitive circumstances.

I am not knocking the lad. Hope he is excellent. But no major experience at 21 means there is little to guage him by and thus is a risk.

We have Barnett and Hendrie, but what we don't have is the funds or the status to not have to take a 'risk' as you put it.

The reason Jason Williams has not featured is his 15 minutes at Chesterfield. You have to at least look interested to catch the eye of any manager.

Tough one to call.

If he's on the books at a Premier League Club then he'll be a pretty good player.

Dan Crowley is on Arsenal's books with no first team experience so to speak of, but ran the show at our place when he was playing for Barnsley this season.

I can't wait until Williams is released at the end of the season so everyone can get over our "next big thing" and take each player that comes in on their own merits rather than comparing what others think they have seen from world beating Williams.

Not really. Stan had played 20 times for Palace (including I think once against us) and prior to that for Stafford Rangers, whilst Freddy had played 50+ times for Grays. That's competitive adult football, not reserve team football which is what the U21s is.

Anyone know why McQueen hasn't been out on loan? He's basically 21 and hasn't had a sniff at first team football.

Was he injured last season?
