Blues in talks with Anthony Grant

it would be great to get him in -

i reckon his wages are probably expensive (the stumbling block) but we should sell him on at a profit after a year or so -

I'd like to see Grant sign. We didn't get to see too much of him last year coming on as a late substitute all the time but he has plenty of appearances for England youth and years at Chelsea won't have done him any harm. He clearly has pedigree and I don't think he would be a costly signing.

Since a young age he has been farmed out left right and centre which is difficult for a young player and if we get him permanently, with a bit more stability he could certainly shine. He impressed me last night, as did Clapham.

I didn’t really see anything last season to make me think “wow we must get this player”
Hope this isn’t a panic buy.

He was on loan with us last season, so they saw plenty in training, he's now released by Chelsea and he's back training with us. Hardly a panic buy is he?

Would be pleased with this if he signs, think he has good potential. And would be ideal for the holding role in a diamond, infact if we play this formation it's probably the most important position.

Who says talks have just started ? He was training with the team well after his loan expired and may have been on holiday.

Think Grant has always been on our list and there could be a multitude of reasons why we havent yet finalised the deal.

Dont get me wrong I did say I am very pleased to see him back at Roots Hall, I guess talks have just started because he has just become available on a free transfer and to get a player in his early 20's from a Premiership Club on a free transfer is good business if it happens

Only saw him briefly as a sub against Brighton so I cant really make an educated judgement on him. He did look very keen to impress and was running all over the place chasing lost causes at 2-0 up, so I think his attitude is right.

Is this a joke? How can this possibly be a panic buy when we had him on loan for months and there's weeks to go before the deadline closes.

For what its worth everyone I spoke to about him agreed he looked comfortable on the ball, had a decent tackle, and a good awareness of where his team mates are.

There were several calls at the close of last season to make sure we got Antony on a permanent basis; I agreed with them then and still do.

I definitely want him at Roots Hall...I think he will be a very good aquisition. From what I remember he scored a couple of goals for us, one of them was a very good strike!

Robson-kanu was here at the same time as grant and scored 3 goals, peach of a header at home to Swansea, Great finish at home to Forest and also scored in our 2-1 win at Huddersfield.

Was going to suggest it was HRK as well, Grant still looks good though, and I'd prefer him tbh.

That's who I was thinking of..nice one.

Would love him here, though don't think Reading are going to let him go!

Spoke to Robson-Kanu who was quite honest and said he'd been told he'd only be allowed out on loan if Reading stayed up and if they didn't he was hoping to go on Loan to a championship team which could have been us. He wont have to go on loan now though will he.

BBC article

Steve talking to BBC in above article said:
"He's available if we want him," boss Steve Tilson told Southend's website.

"We will be speaking again on Friday to see if something can happen.

"Sometimes it is better the devil you know and I think he would be a good addition to the squad."

Sounds like we could hear something early next week.
