Blues in talks with Anthony Grant

Ah I had been wondering what was happening with Grant, I'm pleased he still wants to come here and we're still interested in him. Would be a great signing, if not for anything else but for covering right back and centre mid.

I'm delighted we're in for Grant. I know Chelsea fans who rate him very highly and I thought he did well in the brief chances he got last season.

Grant played really well tonight. Methinks he'll be the next one in the door.

Anthony Grant would be a great signing, especially on a free and seems to provide the much needed creativity in the midfield. He is already much more of an "accomplished player" as opposed to the "young prospects" we always seem to end up with. Sign him up Tilly!

Clapham showed his pedigree I thought and, although he may not be a long term prospect, could certainly do a job for a few seasons. He's 32 but didn't really show his age I thought and still seems to have the legs to go with the footballing brain. I wouldn't mind having him at all although I'm not sure about his fitness record. Would be a very good mentor to Herd as well I think, who is obviously believed to be destined for great things.

It was Grant and Mulgrew I wanted at the end of the season, Charlie obviously got away but I shall be more than happy if we sign Grant.

I was most surprised to see Anthony Grant there tonight (having not seen the Echo today) and when he was coming off the field following the pre match warm up asked him to autograph my Centenary book. While he was doing this I asked him if he would be signing for the club. He looked up, smiled and said "Maybe" so there you have it.

Hope he does because the lad is quality for sure.

It will be good to see Anthony "Snoop Dog" Grant back at Roots Hall, signing any player is a risk but at least the management know what he can do, the only thing that worries me is
1. Why has it taken so long for talks to start - little over 2 weeks before the start of the season
2. Tilly's quote "sometimes its better the devil you know", does that mean we have reached a bit of a dead end on signings and we are going back to square one ?

I didn’t really see anything last season to make me think “wow we must get this player”
Hope this isn’t a panic buy.

Potentially he's been negotiating his release from Chelsea. I doubt that Anthony Grant was top of Phil Scolari's list of things to deal with upon starting the job three weeks ago.

It'll be labelled as a panic buy if he flops. Despite him haaving been here last season and having trained with us after his loan experied and then having been brought back in in pre-season so we could have another look at him.

He did well in his limited chances with us, did well at Wycombe the season before, has done well in the reserves at Chelsea by all accounts and must have impressed enough in training for Jose Mourinho to offer him a new contract at 19 or 20 years of age. I think it's safe to say that he's got the pedigree.

Who says talks have just started ? He was training with the team well after his loan expired and may have been on holiday.

Think Grant has always been on our list and there could be a multitude of reasons why we havent yet finalised the deal.
