Billy Paynter Fights for his Place

Witham games is only 4 & half days away now - this is the game we must show Billy our support & he will get the message that we are behind him, its will bring the feel good factor back to him & give him every reason to score goals & give 100% for us.

"Paynter will face strong competition for a place in the side though as Charlie MacDonald, Lee Bradbury, Richie Foran, Gary Hooper and Matt Harrold will also be striving for selection."

Hmmm. To me that doesn't exactly shout out strong competition. More like at least one place up for grabs.

Confidence is everything in a footballer,if people are abusing from all directions every goes, first touch, awareness, your scared silly about making another mistake. So give the boy a break, with confidence im sure you will see a different player,a striker with a stong m f behind might give you 15 or 16 goals this season

I am up for putting abit of Cash towards sponsering Billy, this may sound silly but i think he could be a key player for us this year if he is in the right frame of mind. People seem to forget he played for Football league under 21's, which without fault he can produce the goods.

So come on Billy the floor is yours.

I would love to make a donation towards TB's idea. Think Billy could be our '20 goals a season man' next season.

not that im not for supporting our players but people seem to be getting to extreme on the bp front. He was bad when he started playing for and yes was treated unfairly by some fans but now people are saying he going to be our new 20 goal a season man?? It may be true but as I've seen Jam man say a couple of times what did he show us last year to prove he is going to be this player? I dont get how all of a sudden it has become the fashionable thing to love billy painter, people saying he is their top choice and that players like foran, hooper and harrold aren't to his standards we seem to have gone Paynter crazy! I'd love Billy to do well next year but people need to start being realistic otherwise if he doesn't deliver he'll get the same treatment. Lets get behind our players but not get carried away I hope he will do well and I think he will do well enough but we need a better forward IMO.

p.s the sponsorship idea is great, I'm just confuse about this Payntmania!!

I really hope he does prove the boo boys wrong and scores a few goals, next season.

Yeah Im with you on that. Im all for giving the strikers another chance but Paynter never did much other than one half against Cardiff and looked poor prior.

By all means lets give the lad a chance and hope he does well but lets not build up expectations again as that will only lead to disappointment and boos again!!

PS When do we are start the Harrold love in?

This kid is good enough. I am treating him as a new signing, a fresh invigorated Billy Paynter desperately trying to shut some people up is a massive asset for any club in L1. The guys attitude for me is first class, and he has talent to match. If he can settle there is absolutely no reason why he cannot score us plenty of goals. All this about a Paynter love in for me is bull****. People have more respect for him now after reading some of the things he has said and they have perhaps read match reports or even watched him play at his best. I never lost faith him and really wanted him to come back here, and i know its the same for him. He is young but now is the time for him deliver and to be honest i think he will thrive off that new pressure. He is better than Harrold, he can and will be better than Bradders this season, he has more raw talent than Foran and as yet i cannot compare him to Macdonald. Have faith.

i think some people remember how good he was when he came down here for port vale... im not sure if he will bag 20 but i think he will be excellent if he gets a good pre-season under his belt and with our depth of striking options (it feels good to say that) then with hopefully foran, hooper, harrold and bradburyand macdonald all chipping in with a handful of goals then i reckon we will get the required amount from our strikers...

when we last went up through league 1:

Gray - 6
Goater - 10
eastwood - 23
lawson - 2
bradbury - 1

TOTAL - 42 from strikers

with our current strikers is this unrealistic?
Paynter - 14
MacDonald - 10
Foran - 7
Hooper - 6
Harrold - 5
Bradbury - 3
TOTAL = 45

Bradbury will be lucky if he starts 5 times

Jontosh, you missed out Macdonald. Other than that you may be pretty much there with what you have submitted. Plus there is this new striker Tilly wants he should hoepfully have a good track record.

Disagree with that, now freddy has gone probably our best technical player. don't think we'll see him up front much however. He will make a lot of appearances from the bench should we be winning with ten minutes to go, the perfect play for running (i say running more sort of jogging) down the clock.
