I'd bring Barret in with Ted in the sticks as an experienced centre back can help ease the pressure and make Ted feel more comfortable but its easy to say, its PB choice and lets face it we can't make a decision, whatever he does will be wrong in some Fans eyes.

Teddy did do things wrong - not least his poor kicking for their second goal - but what's the point of giving him experience if you're not going to let him put into practice the lessons learnt?

Stick with him. He responded well to his mistake and didn't fall apart. I thought he finished stronger than he started. Let him continue that progress.

But if you do want to wreck his confidence drop him or get someone in over his head.

This. Bents was nervous and made mistakes against Barnet in his first game, but with further first team exposure, over came the nerves and developed in the number one spot. Smith has been in International youth set ups, and is now getting first team expereince, if we want to see his development continue, we need to allow him these opportunities. Our defence is one of the strongest in the leagues, so an ideal group of players to surround a young developing keeper*.

(*for a couple of seasons, then Twitter 'fans' will tear the arse out of him for every mistake,)

Seems very harsh on Thompson, I don't think he's done a lot wrong. I would go with Barrett and Thompson.
I don't think he's done a lot wrong either, but given that we have at least 3 CBs that I'd be happy to see start every match at present, a bit of rotation is inevitable.

Would be a huge blow losing Bentley. We all know he is way too good for League 2. Without him I think we can kiss goodbye to the automatics. I would go with Ted Smith he has potential time for him to show it. Paul Smith could be a huge liabilty as shown in some of his previous games.

At the start of the week I said I would like to see Barrett and Prosser together .Also deegan in the middle instead of lenny .I was told to watch what I wish for .Well all three seemed to work well last night .Even if it was canvey .

The last time we went into the loan market we pulled out fatboy Belford who was no great kop.

Really? I thought that Belford was a more than adequate keeper at this level and that he performed well for the club while he was here. Certainly be happier with him in goal on Saturday than Paul Smith who's confidence seems 100% shot to pieces.

if Dan is still out it would be very harsh to drop Ted and as I say, Paul Smith may have the experience but god help him if he plays and makes a mistake, there are plenty of people who will be more than happy to crucify him for it.

Belford made a major "oops!" in the Crewe play-off game, as I recall.

Yes, I was there and remember it. Never said Belford was Gordon Banks, just that he was adequate at this level and did well at Southend while he was here. Even the very top class keepers make mistakes and I stand by my opinion that he was a decent keeper during his two loan spells at the club.

Oh I agree. Better times to make an "oops" than on Sky in a play-off though! Mind you Crewe didn't capitalise.

Paul Smith's problem is that he lets the 'fans' that boo him get into his head, fortunately they won't be present at away games so I'd start him.

Always thought Paul Smith was a good GK, have seen him play very well and I think the back 4 would have a lot of confidence in him. Has taken a lot of unfair stick in my opinion. Just because he doesn't pander to certain groups of fans, kiss the badge or applaud them. Would prefer Bentley, However, have a lot of confidence in Paul and I'm sure a lot of the squad do as well.

I'm hoping Bentley can pull himself round. He's been the length of the Arterial the best player this season, and the amount of goals he saved that either Smith is about to let in doesn't bear thinking about.
I would have chosen ANY other player to be injured before Dan the Man - and, no, this is not his dad.

Phil Brown has revealed Daniel Bentley has suffered a grade one tear of his groin and is 50/50 for Saturday. More in tomorrow's Echo.

Thanks Dan's brother

I totally agree though. Any other player injured would have been an annoyance, but I fear we'd have coped alright. Bentley being injured suddenly makes you realise what an integral part of the team he is. Smith's had one game in goal and I think we've all realised he's not quite ready yet. Really hope he's fit for Saturday, otherwise Brown has a pretty unenviable decision to make.
