Breaking News Ben Goodliffe Signs On Loan.

So where does this guy fit in?

Is he left sided, right sided, a ball playing central centre-half?

Are there some injuries (other than Crowther) we don’t know about?

We already have four fit centre-halves so to sign a fifth who is on EFL wages seems a strange move (some may remember the Steve Jones loan many years ago when we were solidly midtable and he was on a massive wage). If we needed a fifth centre-half as depth a Deon Woodman type youngster would have made more sense. Ralph and Taylor have been our best players so far this season and Golding had made a positive impression.

I’m all for adding quality (and until recently he had a decent resume) but this seems a strange move by itself. There seems to be something missing.

I assume he’s not out of contract in the summer if they’re loaning him until the end of the season?
Adam Crowther will be out for some time. Depth in the centre will also allow Ralph to play left wing back as an option.

Wasn’t on for long but looked decent on the ball and was constantly talking to the defence and organising. Have a feeling we will enjoy watching him

HIs weakness funnily enough is his skill on the ball although to be honest he is not bad just a bit clumsy at times, but his strength is in the air, his physical play, and his organising ability, he is natural captain material as he has been in the past at Sutton. He did have a really bad injury 2 years ago which slowed him down a little but overall he sems fine now. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62506309

Did anyone manage to read the article that Kev gave about Goodlife. Couldn’t access it sadly
SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher feels Ben Goodliffe’s leadership will be a big boost for Blues.

The 25-year-old centre-back will spend the rest of the season on loan with the Shrimpers from Colchester United.

And Maher is pleased to have the defender on board for the remainder of the campaign.

“Ben puts his head on things and, as you saw when he came on, he talks and organises,” said Maher.

“James Golding has done brilliantly for us but Ben is slightly different in terms of the leadership qualities he’s got.

“He knows the level and got out of it with Sutton.

“He’s played higher and I think he will be a good addition for us.”

Goodliffe made his Shrimpers debut as a second half substitute in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Dagenham & Redbridge.

And Maher felt the new boy’s height was key in the closing stages.

“We could see with the subs they were bringing on they were getting a bit bigger,” explained Maher.

“We knew long throws would be coming into the box and Ben is good in both boxes.

“He organises people around him and we brought him on to go bigger ourselves to nullify their threat.

“They had a good chance at the end but thankfully it’s straight at Nathan (Harness) who has made a save which was pleasing.”

Might have missed it, by why don’t you lot want him?
Btw, what the hells going on with your pitch?
We have plenty of other central defenders and Ben despite only being here since June last year seems to have fallen out of favour with the Cowley's. They still rate him however but want to get him some games hence his loan to you guys. Our pitch is terrible and will need totally replacing at the end of the season. Robbie Cowling spent a lot of money on it last summer it was dug up and new drainage was put underneath, but it took so long there was no time left to bed in a decent pitch hence the state you see today.
