Put us on 87 points, seems to be enough to get us 3rd more often than not, but I've probably got a few matches that should be draws.

I do have us to lose 2-1 to Torquay though.

When getting promoted from league 2, via the play-offs in 2005, 83 points won the league, we finished on 78. We are only 3 wins short of our total that year, and only 3 goals short. Our defensive record was a lot better. 3 wins and we are at least guaranteed play-offs.

However this time that season after 36 games played, the table was like this: 1. Yeovil 69, 2. Scunthorpe 64, 3. Southend 61but today its 1. Swindon 73, 2. Torquay 66, 3. Shrewsbury 65 (only played 35) 4. Southend 64. So whilst we have more points this year than 04/05 so do our rivals and also this year we have Cheltenham behind us on goals scored and Crawley can overtake us providing they win their 2 games in hand. 04/05 season saw Swansea clinch 3rd place with 80 points.

There still will be twist and turns and I think we just cannot predict who will go up apart from Swindon unless they blow it big time.

Alas, my confidence in PS has waned. I suspect he will become more defensive and try to protect, not only in preparation and planning for a game but also during a game.I think the pre-Christmas run was more about flair and attacking spirit than anything else. As soon as the record was reached and the hype was raised the over-confidence took over, sooooooooo

Swindon
Crawley (They will come out of their poor run and re-surge upwards)
Shrewsbury

Torquay
Cheltenham
Southend
Oxford (who will eventually win the fourth spot)

Not only is my glass half empty, but it's also very stale beer!

Down will go Macclesfield and D & R

In our efforts to estimate which teams will make the automatics or play-off places, there is a very important element that makes this task even more difficult. I think some attention needs to be given to the sides at the bottom, desperately fighting for League Two survival. It's here that a number of strange results are likely to occur, which could upset the apple cart for one or two high fliers and of course makes the job of predicting, that more difficult. This message of warning goes out to two clubs this weekend. Shrewsbury have the apparent easy task of a visit to 23rd placed Plymouth......OK, following a brief revival, they have lost two of their last three but all very closely contested matches. Southend United only have to turn up at 22nd placed Hereford???........................not exactly, Hereford after giving Gills the shock of their life, just losing out to the odd goal in NINE, are now undefeated in three, of which two were wins.......BE CAREFUL Blues!!!!
Pity that Northampton aren't playing many at the top clubs because they have won three on a trot. Barnet won at Port Vale last time out and Macclesfield have drawn their last five matches but haven't won in ten! It's only poor Daggers that appear to be sinking fast with three defeats on the trot. I suppose that it is in our interest that the dog fight at the bottom goes on as long as possible and those teams involved fight for their lives (apart from Hereford and Barnet, when they play against us!) and cause one or two surprises along the way.
Slightly off topic, something that we all hope won't effect us next year but have you been watching the fight for the one automatic place for entry to League Two. Wow! virtually nothing to divide Fleetwood and Wrexham......will keep an eye on that one.

All the teams seem to have easyish run ins... I thought 83 points would get promoted but I reckon 88 is needed. Even going unbeaten from here on in, winning every game except Torquay, Oxford and Bristol Rovers, we scrape 3rd.

No easy games at this time of the season, as yogi says some of the teams near the bottom are putting little runs together and nerves will start to set in for teams near the top.

Crawley have sold their two strikers, they have only won 2 games in the last 14, havent won in 8.

How people are predicting them to finish in the top 3 I dont know. If they can turn their form around then so can we...

I think it's based more on their run in, they appear to have have the more favourable run of fixtures - on paper anyway.

I've got

1. Swindon 102
2. Shrewsbury 98
3. SUFC 88 +32
4. Crawley 88 +26
5. Torquay 85
6. Cheltenham 78
7. Oxford 77

and replaced them with another 2 recently that chances are no one else in the league could afford....looking at their run in and their current strike force I'd put them second.

Obviously I'd love to be wrong...(I would love it, just love it to quote Kevin Keegan) if they missed the playoffs - but in answer to your question that's why I personally have predicted them to finish in the top 3, though clearly I can't speak for others.

It would be interesting to look back in May and see who was the closest.

1. Swindon
2. Torquay
3. SUFC
--------
4. Shrewsbury
5. Cheltenham
6. Crawley

We scrape it on goals scored with Blair Sturrock scoring in the last minute of injury time vs Macc to become a cult hero

For Swindon to drop not only off the top but out of the automatics they've got to have a cataclysmic failure to amass points!
