Last, but not least, we have A Century Uniteds offering Rising Damp up against Frasier (stereoscene)

Over to you boys and girls ...

Point of order Blueblood - ACU left a message on here last night asking if anyone can advocate on his behalf.

Again it boils down to British verus American comedy.
I am not a fan of American comedy.

I was not a big fan of Rising damp either although Leonard Rossiter was brilliant in the adverts with Joan Collins and rising damp did have a cliche.
"ooh Miss Jones" and it also had Richard Beckinsale in.

My vote is for RD

Any of you 4 care to post something on behalf of ACU? Would be good if someone who hasn't sponsored did............hint, hint!

Tough one this. In the end I have gone for Frasier. It is an excellent sit com that was slightly spoiled (in my view) by the whole Myles & Daphne getting married thing. BUT, the early episodes was fantastic and the level of farce that was occasionally introduced was just right.

As much as I love Rising Damp, Frasier gets my vote.

I still don't understand how you could miss out Mind Your Language and Home to Roost.
Without two of the biggest hitters in Sitcom, this competition is nothing short of a farce.

There, I said it..

No to mention 'No Place Like Home' featuring the incomparable William Gaunt as Arthur Crabtree, and a young Martin Clunes as the original Nigel. 7pm on Tuesdays has never been the same.

Quite astounded when people say "they don't like American humour."

Surely comedy is comedy - if it makes you laugh who cares if it comes from a suburban setting in Pinner or a Seattle coffee house?

What's not to like with Frasier? It's incredibly well written with excellent characters (ok, bar the dodgy English ones such as Daphne's brother). For a supposed cerebral comedy it has incredibly funny slapstick.

Remember Frasier was an offshoot of Cheers, a highly successful sitcom in it's own right and sadly missing from this competition.

For me, Frasier was a staple must-see of Friday night on Channel 4.

the charecter of Simon was brilliant..it reminds me of my old guitarist..same accent and mental state..perfect. Shame the charecters accent wasnt the same as 'Daphne's'...
'Frasier' was, and still is one of the best sitcoms ever written, it has 'English' farce, that any UK sitcom would be envious of, quick one liners you would expect in American comedies, links with another GIANT comedy series in 'Cheers', charecters that you grew with and cared for, and lastly..its got EDDIE!!!!

in a word..BRILLIANT!

Frasier should romp this one - it has everything - from vaudeville to tragi-comic to character-driven comedy. So many expertly written characters, a well-judged story arc.

And, and this is unusual in sitcoms, an episode that made me cry - the one when Martin has his song sung at a friend's funeral.

Brilliant. I have every single series on DVD.

That's a ridiculous statement. Define 'American comedy'. If you're talking about cheesy, moralistic, family-orientated stuff such as 'Home Improvement' then that's a million miles away from Frasier, which is one of classiest, cleverest sitcoms ever.

In fact, in many ways Frasier is very British in style, in that it preys very much on class and snobbery. Frasier and Niles are probably the most popmpous comedic characters since Captain Mainwaring.

Not having a pop, but if you browse the older threads you'll see when this comp was first mooted it was up to the Zoners to nominate their favourites and the first 32 were entered, simple as that
