I'm very confused by this "of its time" business when some are clearly Sci-fi, period or plain escapism! So, would Raiders of the Lost Ark or Beverley Hills Cop be acceptable? One is clearly not present day (but is the better film) and the other doesn't involve teens. On reflection though, my choice would be either Rain Man or Big - again, not sure which qualifies under the criteria set - my preference is for Big, which is just Tom Hanks at his best.

I'm glad someone chose this. One of my favourite films as a child.

I'm presuming Napster means that it was set in the 'Present Day', back when it was made. So Raiders wouldn't count as it's set in the 30s but Beverly Hills Cop would.

Clash of the Titans seems a bit out of place. Back to the Future was mainly set in the 50s, but should be allowed on the basis of it being the greatest movie of all time.

Allowing Terminator but disallowing Predator seems a bit strange...

What I mean is, it couldn't be filmed at any other time. Put it this way, Terminator is an 80s film - the effects, the style, the script. Predator isn't - it's a more serious sci-fi. Back to the future again, has an 80s feel to it, as do all the films so far nominated. COTT I did ask for an argument, and I think cheese has a lot to do with it - cheese being an integral part of 80s movies. Raiders wasn't cheesy, nor was it cool, nor was it a typical 80s film. BHC is definitely cool, great cars, great script, and could not have been filmed in the 70s, nor the 90s, when things got a bit serious.

Does that explain it? I know what I mean.
