Seeing Adam play so well on Friday really made my weekend and just made me love the bloke even more. What to true professional and a true gent. I would love him to stay for another season but even if he didnt I would like him to have something to do with the club, either a coach or maybe even a future manager.

At the moment my view is that ''I always said AB was just the experienced leader we have been crying out for all season and should be allowed to go as long as he likes."
However, if he has a bad game between now and the end of the season I reserve the right to say " I always said he was too old and too slow and bringing back former players never works".
That should cover it.

Another immense game on BH monday. The cool old head we have needed for a long time. If he carries it on to the end of the season he is worth making an offer to.

What management experience does Barrett have that makes him your choice for manager?

Same as our most successful ever manager I suspect. We've had a number of 'experienced' managers here; some successful, some not. Probably about the same success rate as inexperienced? Wasn't Steve Thompson a rookie manager too? Short lived, but explosive results at the time. Ronnie Whelan did ok in his first season too.
Personally, I think if an ex player has the right attributes and they have picked up a few tips on the way from being managed by 'experienced' managers, there's no reason not to take this approach.
To me, Adam has the right attributes. I would love to see him step up to the hot seat some day.

The one thing these younger players should notice is .At the end of the game while many players stood in the center just about managing to clap the fan for there support .Adam Barrett completed a lap of the pitch clapping and beating his chest with pride .To all three sides of the home support .:Worthy:

I would really like to AB manage the team one day, I can really see it happening as well. I wouldn't be afraid to chuck him in at the deep end either. He has a lot of experience and look at Ainsworth at Wycombe, he's doing ok for them now.

Some the most exciting teams in the football league have young managers in charge, I reckon he could build an excellent team spirit and a hardworking team.

Having just watched his blues players interview. What an absolute chap this fella is. Think he will go down as my favourite every player. IF we go up this year, how would it rank against his other two promotions with us?

We got relegated in his only season in charge I don't call that doing ok

Webb had much more management experience. We, I believe, were his third club.

Well its been scientifically proven that there is only one Adam Barrett so the club should do all they can to keep him as a player or in a coaching role as we are very unlikely to find another

I think AB is in the running for the Southend U19 coach job. Plus he runs his academy right there. And he is finishing off his coaching badges. One way or the other he will be connected to the club

I suspect he will carry on for one more year even if we go up. I think the retire decision came when he thought he was going to a bit part player to the ned of this campaign and he has already said he won't now go and play anywhere else.

Subsequently he has proved he still has what it takes, and PB now knows for sure what he brings & that he has another year at least in him.

I doubt anything will be said now to after the campaign when AB will make a considered final statement after talks with PB. No need to rush to either confirm the original decision and change it based on subsequent events.

What I think is certain is that he is capable of at least 1 more season.

I am sure someone somewhere will also remind him of Allan Borders famous quote "your a long time retired'.

One more season would be amazing, but at the end of the day Adam has to make the right decision for himself. I sincerely hope that he is in the running for the U19 role and can combine that with playing in the first team. He still has a lot to offer, and I hope he stays at Southend for a long time to come, either as a player or in a back room role.

Has to stay on - no brainer - most passionate and influential player we've had for years. No coincidence Bolgers improvement since playing alongside him

There are some fascinating thoughts on this thread . There are a lot of people wanting AB as the next manager , how ever a lot of people have also stated that Brown is too defensive as a manager , because he was a defender himself ..... What would that mean under AB . Another thought is that maybe AB won't want to become a Southend manager, because want happens to his legacy as a player if he fails miserably as a manager ? As people will know from reading my threads I am a fan of Brown. I do think the club is the most stable it's been and I see more passion in the players than I have since maybe the championship season under Tilson. Yes , PB' s remit was promotion, however if there was a points caveat on what is required RM and PB would have probably agreed that plus 80 points would be sufficient, sadly as it stands, that's not the case. Some people have questioned whether PB has lost the dressing room, I think anyone that was there on Tuesday would confirm that this theory is incorrect. Under the current management structure, including RM , we have seen players signed on longer than 1 year contracts , which again instils stability, a much needed commodity in football. If the unquestionable happens and we don't get promoted, personally , under PB , with the same core of players, I really think we will walk this league next season.
Again, these are only my opinions and I have nothing to back these up, just my experience of what I have seen over the many years I've supported .
Sturrock did what no other manager could , kept us alive and gave us a spring board, but during his reign I never felt a part of Southend , like I did under Webb, Fry and also Tilson, to me again, and again I use Tuesday night as a casing point, the celebrations where shared by all, fans, managers and even chairman (yes his ego put him on the pitch - but the players didnt mind him sharing from what I saw).
UTB's
(Not sure exactly what I've said in this, just typing from the heart whilst bored at work !!)

Well if his interview posted today on BBC sport is to believed he feels he can play on. Will sit down with management at end of season- clearly would prefer not to retire and wants to carry on playing - very good news and frankly we need his experience whatever division we are in. His partnership with Bolger is proving top notch.

assume he has only a contract to end of season. if he does retire lets hope he goes out on top. he is def a send hero, maybe coaching / management next step if he wants to
