I fail to understand why certain people target players for a torrent of verbal abuse during the game , whilst purporting to be Blues fans. We all have opinions about certain players but telling Kevin Betsy he is a f...... waste of time (along with other expletives) which he can hear quite plainly has no other effect other than to undermine and totally ruin a players confidence. Betsy looked shocked by the comments and it may be no coincidence that it was he who missed the 1-on-1 with the 'keeper shortly afterwards.Betsy came in for the abuse after missing a header that seemed quite simple to score with.( In fact the last defender managed to just flick the ball before it reached Betsy).
Give the guys a chance and and at least cheer and support them during the game. Derogatory and vile abuse has no positive effect whatsoever on a players performance.

In a no,Betsy is poo, people voicing there opinions seems to be a massive no go area on the zone and at the matchs, tho this is a forum and thats what its about, also its football he get over it.

as for you saying it was the abuse that made him miss that 1 on 1 is utter rubbish, he missed it coz he took to many touches oh and he rubbish

if i was a player who got alot of abuse id go out of my way to prove them wrong and up my game, just like Matt Harrold did at Wittham this pre season, now am sure he will never be booed by that lot again

I think the point is, we all want Southend to do well, so why put that at risk?

I guess it comes down to what you want more, confident players, or something else?

i do think sometimes you need to voice your opinion to the players but there is deffinately a way to go about it. personally thought the abuse francis got when he was near us for corners was really harsh. he obviously heard and some of the things were said i would never say to a player. i'm the first to say francis has been terrible of late but personal abuse isn't on and felt sorry for him after that. he took it well and didn't say or do anything even though he must have fancied having a pop back.

i remember last year at cheltenham when someone personally abused gower and he turned round and told the fan to **** off. i just think however **** we play this isn't on and isn't going to help anyone.

Infact after reading this and talking to god, i now no i must be wrong and your right but........

if your doing rubbish in your job you think your manager would just pat you on the back and say dont worry or actually say somthing to you?????

if your doing rubbish in your job you think your manager would just pat you on the back and say dont worry or actually say somthing to you?????

but would he/she personally abuse you and scream at you and also call you a useless ****??? if my manager did that i think he would be getting the sack.

plus we're fans not the manager.

didnt say that did i, we maybe not the manager but we certainly pay there wages, spend hours on the road hundreds of pounds so sorry in my eyes we are intitled to say how we feel,

If people are happy to watch the **** we watched and just say " it dont matter coz Barnard is back sat" then so be it and am gonna stop people from being happy clappy, when i know the team we had out last night was good enough to beat Cheltenham

i'm not saying i don't disagree with you mate so don't think that but i just don't agree with calling someone a useless **** countless of times as some did yesterday. just won't be doing that.

i do tell players what i think though but there is ways around it. yesterday night the game was shocking and very frustrating for us as the lack of effort was what ****ed me off the most.

If you want to get the best out of people then you have to go about it by finding out who responds to what.
Some players need a good rollicking and others a quiet word and a gentle gee-up.
The trouble is that we don't know what the players' character are like so really we should just butt out of it! Tilson knows about the lads psyche so we should let him deal with it.In an ideal world.

It's a difficult conondrum i guess.Fan has a tough day at work, racing round so that fan can make it to Cheltenham on time.Gets to ground and feels happier now only to see Francis or whoever strolling about and suddenly the clouds descend and fan gets abusive,it's understandable maybe.

But it probably won't help.At all levels of football,if the player has talent but isn't playing to his full potential, then the confidence will be brittle.

It's best to encourage but it's difficult at times to do that.As a manager of football teams myself and a fairly successful one i can honestly say that NO player will play well after being slagged off infront of other people and the best way to get a good performance from them is to tell 'em they are Pele,Banks or Cruyff.

....of course, after that if they still play like ***p then get shot of them;)

I am sorry bucket&spade.f.c but you have just talked the biggest load of bollocks I have ever read on this forum.

First off, Betsy is not poo he is just not having a good few games. Just like Francis he is not a rubbish player he is just in bad form.

Secondly the point you made about if your not performing in your job and with a manager giving you a pat on the back. I am sorry but if you are not performing well in your job a good manager will pull you aside and speak to you and try and give you a confidence boost to make your perform.

Now I am afriad to say you don't actually pay the players wages, you contribute to it buy buying tickets to games and memrobilla. Ron Martin plays the players wages. No one asks you to travel all that way and spend all that money, you are not forced to go to every single game. If you think it is **** and waste of time and money stop moaning about it and don't go!

I don't agree with bashing players at the game and I have often voiced my opinon to people who bash players like the ********s in the South Upper. They play for Southend United so get behind them and if they are playing **** give them a bit of encouragement to play better... And if they have a bad game, come on here and let off your steam about it. How would you feel if that was you on the pitch and some arrogant ****er starts shouting "YOUR ****".

Put the shoe on the other foot and think about things.

dont worry mate, its a forum dont think theres ever a right answer just peoples views

anyway the guy who this is aimed at doesnt travel that often, and i do agree to a bit that he was rather harsh, even more so when he did it when the ball was out of play

Thats always your response isn't it, I should go to more games? I am a season ticket holder and have done 3 away games this season. I have been to the home FA cup game against Telford and am going to the Luton game on saturday. I also made the trip to watch the reserves so you can't pull that one on me.

I also have blues world so watch the hi lights of the games I don't go to. So I know how the players are playing. I am not picking you out here I am just saying that in general people should not have a go at the players. It is wrong and uncalled for. If someone is playing poorly it is the job of the Captain and the Manager/Coaching staff to have a go at them and tell them to buck up! Otherwise they will get subbed (with 2 minutes to go ;) ).

Just don't agree with player bashing, past or present. Campbell-Ryce is a prime for the ex situation, he was booed for what? Being an excellent player for us and wanting to join a side playing in a higher league. Oh and look what the booing did, made him score against us. Let the opposition do the booing for our players.

you say thats always my response thats coz its a good one, by going you get to see the full 90min (maybe not me) you get to see on and off the ball, and see much more then what bluesworld can offer,

but like i said there really isnt a right or wrong answer, my opinion is you should tell them or the team what you think, if playing ****, the fact is every Sufc fan knows we can play better, and at the mo its rubbish football.

JCR i tell you why, "am happy where i am and dont want to move up north"

week later what does he do????????????

he was a great player yes but dont kiss the badge infront of many fans then go do somthing like that

oh and dont get me started on subs

Well not really, once you have a family it will change things like that. I would love to be able to go to every game but I have a daughter, I have an expensive car to pay for and to be frank my job doesn't pay anywhere near enough. Not everyone is unattached to any major commitments. I work shifts so can't always have saturday's off. I have yet to miss a home game this season... But other people have their family and other commitments but surely the fact that they are there in spirit is enough. So for that reason it is a poor argument.

at the end of the day i can deffinately see what bucket and spade fc is trying to say just might not have come out as he would have liked.

i do think francis is a very good player but is by far consistant. he's a player who one game can play great and look like a championship side player such as having a very good spell last season. havn't seen much of that this season and he's unfortunate to have the sort of body language that looks lazy, sort of like lewis hunt and that goes against him. one thing i think we will all agree on or at least everyone who went to tranmere can say that was one of his worst performances in a blues shirt.

nevertheless as many predicted we are entering a sticky patch and i think the next few games will be very tough. we're just going to have to stick with the players and pray a few things happen in january.

in tilly we trust!

but am not trying to argue....
