Australia-best place to live?

I love it here in Brisbane, but then I had a great life in Westcliff On Sea too. Oz wouldn't be for everyone which is cool, be a bit boring if we all aspired to the same thing.

So surveys like this are pretty meaningless, if you are happy where you are then does it matter what something like this says? And if you aren't happy, move or do something to change it - don't wait for a survey to tell you where you should live.

And as for the TV? Yeah there's plenty of crap, but isn't that the same for the UK too? Anything worth watching from 'back home' we get (the same day via the net or soon enough on normal TV). We even get some of the crap TV from England too. And each to their own and all that but if you judge your standard of living by what's on TV then that's a bit sad IMO.

I hope I'll never be a smug ex-pat who belittles my old hometown, I love Southend and always will. By the same token I live where I do through choice and so don't want to be someone who just pines for the 'old country'. If I get to that stage then I should move back there, I'm here because I want to be here.

Typical socialist hates his own country. I agree with DBP, don't think I could ever emigrate permanently although the way this country is heading who knows. I lived in Germany for a year as part of my degree and I enjoyed it, Germany certainly has a few advantages over England, but living abroad does make you appreciate the things that you take for granted in your homeland. Britain's the best country in the world in my opinion, in terms of its history and what it gives to the world considering its relatively small size. I think I'd miss too many things (not least SUFC) if I emigrated. I'd like to visit Australia but don't think I could live there with all those spiders.

Moving to Florida for a year in 7 weeks. Always wanted to live there. America as a whole in fact. Not everywhere is perfect, all places have their flaws but I've always felt at home in Florida so we'll see what my year out there brings.
