Australia-best place to live?

It is a big place down there. Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra, and only a few other cities/towns. The rest is a bit "remote" so I'd have to pick carefully where to live as it can be a long way to get your take away curry.

Wow, amazing debating skills dude.

Wasn't it Wilde himself who once remarked? 'I have nothing to declare but my Smiley's.'

Off you trot to Wikipedia then to find some pithy remark to counter with.

Please do try and keep your contributions to this thread on topic.

I've never been to Oz and was interested to hear what other zoners had to say about it.

No need to knock Wiki either.A good mate of mate here (and an ex-colleague) has just had his second TEFL book published. He swears that he only passed his distance learning MA thanks to Wiki, which is why he continues to donate to the site.

I come second in the list... thats pretty good :)

Although recently they like a bit of a riot :winking:

Ok, I shall allow you to continue in your quest.

Cool story about Wiki, can you tell it again?

have you watched Simon Reeve's program? The size of Australia is incredible, one area he was visiting in the last episode is the size of England but only has a population of 20,000!

When I first went 20+ yrs ago flights were expensive, money tight etc so we took greyhound bus from Sydney to Brisbane: BIG mistake, 24 hrs on the bus driving through nothing! & pre air con, never again!

IT was 5 years ago, when you could get 2.30 aud v gbp exchange rate.Unfortunately it's bloody expensive to live there now. Have to say the aussie values are the values this country used to have 20years ago.Not the best place in the world to live but very close.

I'd go to Australia, no bother at all. Oh, and Cricko.....she's 45 in a few days - can you believe that?! :stunned:

Would never emigrate, I already live in the greatest country in the World.

Alternatively. You could view it that living and working abroad only strengthens the love for the mother country. It is easier to be more objective when abroad and reading, listening or watching news from afar. There is much to love about England and GB but also many faults with it not least of which is the politics and the liberalist political correctness which sees a nation with poor morals, a breaking down (not broken) society and worst of all a total faikure of the crime system to bring the right people to account and to punish them accordingly for their crimes.

The guy I'm talking about is Graham Stanley.Type in his name on Amazon and you'll see his home page and details of the two books he's written.

Just heard today he's swung himself a good TEFL job in Uruguay.

spot on,oh so true..you see what the germans do for germany, putting germans first, then you watch&see the brits, sad, but what a joke they are becoming...always someones elses fault..ie...the eu!!

been to australia a few times, family emigrated, love the place, but going over from germany to "aussie",found australia very expensive...beer prices mental:thumbdown:

Spoke to a friend in England last night, who had spent March in Australia. He was somewhat protected from the high cost of living by staying with a cousin. There were many things he liked but in his opinion he found that it was sadly a cultural 'outback!'

The beer is indeed very expensive although if you live and earn here its not really too bad. The big thing I miss apart from family and friends and football being on at a sensible time is the tv. It is beyond terrible.

Although it is I retesting they don't really have a watershed and people including the presenters swear on breakfast radio and tv fairly regularly.

when i was in aussie, rosebud,nr melbourne, could have stayed, got a visa, coz my family, had emigrated, one morning at some god forsaken hour ,could not sleep,so put the radio on,flicker through&by chance got the bbc world service. and a live football game was on,followed by the results. my heart sank, then i knew i could not stay..ok my girlfriend, now wife, would not live in aussie, had to come back
