Attendances lately

Not sure where to put this so will not be surprised to see the moderators moving another of my posts to some quiet backwater.

Just looking at the 9,614 that attended our game v Braintree on 18th April compared with other games.

In The Championship (Division 2) all the games had a higher attendance - the lowest being Oxford v Leeds United at 11,537 ........ but bear in mind that Leeds have an average away following of 3,120 - not the sort of numbers regularly seen in the away section of the North Bank.

In League One (Division 3) the games at Exeter, Leyton Orient & Shrewsbury all had lower attendances. Add to this, the game between Stevenage and Blackpool was watched by 4,161 people - that is well under half the people at Roots Hall.

In League Two (Division 4), all the games with the exception of Carlisle v Port Vale (12,305) were less well attended - the game between Salford & Accrington had an attendance of 2,945 - that is 30% of our game. And Bromley v Morecambe (2,382) amounted to less than 25% of the people at Roots Hall.

Sadly, we all now know that there is far more to revenue streams than just game attendances.

I can see another 9k + crowd coming through the turnstiles next Saturday too.

Incredible support for a team in the 5th tier.

Get roots Hall updated to a 15k capacity and improve the matchday hospitality and create a decent beer tent etc then revenue will increase.

It's very much a chicken an egg situation. More spent on the team and success on the pitch drives the increase in tickets, shirt and merchandise sales and matchday revenue.
Less spent on the team sees smaller crowds but money saved on wages and fees.

We are probably only 2 or 3 really exciting signings from being a top 5 side and I hope that COSU have a real crack it next season both on and off the pitch.

The restructure of roots Hall is critical to our future success. All areas are in dire need of improving and modernising.

The club needs to use the feel good factor to its maximum in the next season or two.

Id love to see a promotion to get 6k+ season card holders next season and with the right marketing there is no reason we can't.

@Rattus Norvegicus Interesting stats. The larger away attendances (Braintree brining 500 was very welcome!) make such a difference in the football league. There are some minnows in L2 and can be some fallen giants in L1.

There's other way to make money, sure. But, outside the prem, attendances still make up a huge slice of the pie. We've got such potential, hopefully we can achieve it.

This is all well and good, but and it's a big BUT, you don't get points for a big crowd.
Really all this we are a big club rubbish is laughable.

By law of averages.

Big crowds mean more financial clout and by and large better results on the pitch.

There are exceptions to the rule but bigger clubs tend to do better than those with much smaller crowds and gates.

The difference in the national league is that there is no wage cap so clubs like FGR and Barnet can sign who they want on whatever wages they want.

We’ve recorded 8,000+ attendances for four consecutive home games over the last month. It’s the first time that has happened during the same season since the opening four matches of the 2009/10 campaign, when we were in the third, rather than the fifth, tier (it also occurred with the last three matches of 2016/17 plus the 2017/18 season opener against Blackburn Rovers).

Well done to the club for getting the North Bank open to home supporters and the marketing and ticketing initiatives around that, to The Blue Voice and the Shrimpers Trust for the work they’ve done to promote the North Bank return and to everyone that has attended those matches - wherever they’ve sat around the ground - and played their part in setting up this season finale.

All with away fans bringing maximum 300-400 too..

I think we had the highest attendance in the Conference yesterday. Halifax played in front of 1,631 people (no that is not a typo), Rochdale 3,550 & Forest Green Rovers 2,801. York had a crowd of 6,249.

Only 1 game in League 2 (Division 4) was higher - that between involving 2 promotion chasing teams of Doncaster & Bradford - 12,574.

Six games in League One (Division 3) had fewer people attending.

We beat the highest crowd this season in non league football, which was set by us the previous week.

This seasons average of 7,339 (+12% rise on last season) is the highest since the 2016/17 League One season, when we were pipped to the final play-off spot by Milwall on the final day.

Even more impressive considering we have had little in the way of away fans this season and would have had a good 500 most weeks in League One.

There's been just as many 8,000+ crowds this season (7), as we had back in 2016/17 also.

Our average this season is higher than 17 League 2 teams and 8 League 1 teams.

Not bad for a team (perhaps) scraping into the NL play-offs. Imagine the numbers with a table topping team 🤯

Kids for a quid made a big difference the last few games and I hope it continues into next season.
