Thoroughly enjoyed the European Team Championships this weekend.

Fantastic performance from 18 year old Jess Judd from Canvey in the 800 meters - that girl will go far

Mo's last lap of the 5000m was also brilliant to see, and nice to see both the 4x100's get the baton round (and in decent times)... also cracking performances from both the 4x400 teams, but particualy the ladies, who could really challenge for top honours at the Worlds with their best 4.

Why? Is she moving up to 5k?

:hilarious:

Started at Canvey AC when she was about 12 mainly doing cc and short road races
Moved to Chelmsford a couple of years later and dropped down to 1500 then 800
Her younger sister Jodie is a good athlete too

Her coach at Chelmsford was Jeremy Freeman but her speed coaching was done by Christian Dailly
She changed coaches last year and is now with Rob Denmark

Good runner was Rob Denmark, Commenwealth Gold at some point if my memory serves me correctly? Must have been after the 92' Olympics, as thats when i got into Athletics, so possibly 94?

Correct - Commonwealth gold in the 5,000m in '94 and European silver the same year. Seventh in the Olympics in Barcelona. There were a couple of kids called Denmark at my junior school in Canvey, I assume they were related to Rob.

I see Phillips Idowu is 'taking a break' from athletics. At the age of 34 that sounds an awful lot like retirement to me!

  Spoiler:
Check out the Women's 4x400m squad

I was thinking the same about the womens 4by4 squad a few weeks back in the European Team Champs, they smashed it, and that was with PSD sitting out, plus the potential for a couple of others who were not competing. I really think that is a definate gold hope for the Worlds.

James Desalou's 9.91 at the British Trials two weeks back will also not gone un-noticed i would suspect. Puts him 4th fastest in the world this year over the 100m, relegating none other the Usain St Leo Bolt to no.5!

Damn straight looking forward to Saturday. anyone else going?

Mo Farah's really a bit special isn't he.

Good chance of another gold at 6:15 with Christine Ohuruogu going in the 400m. Montsho is awesome, but Christine has looked really good in the run up to the final.

Southend Athletics Club got moved from Southchurch Park with the old cinder track to Garons many years ago. They now have a track deemed not up to standard for competitions and have had no club house ever since.
The Athletics club has about 500 members, was (relegated this season) in the top national league; is over 100 yrs old, has had over 100,000 people compete in its annual 10k raising huge amounts for FairHavens. It has produced several olympians and national athletes.
Lower Thames Rowing Club has 20 members, less than 20 yrs old and no competition events.
Both athletics and rowing are A listed as "legacy" sports for councils to assist.
For Rowing Club Clubhouses southend Council have granted £200,000.
For Athletics the Council have granted......................nothing.
How do these Council people figure it out?

Christine was immense, and good job she was smuggling peanuts!

Shame my classmate from uni, Will Sharman, couldn't bring it all together in the final. KJT looks like a real prospect but I worry the hype is going to be an issue for her.

What are the big events for tomorrow?

The club were fund raising for years to get southchurch park upgraded to synthetic. But the price was rising greater than the fund raising.
When Southend Manor wanted senior football status they approached the Athletics club for assistance in building the clubhouse etc.

Manor got more support from the council than the athletic club which resulted in restrictions on training and the cinder track meant that they had to compete at Basildon for several years
Garons was an upgrade but the club had no input . Vandalism has resulted in there being certain safety issues (with the heavy throws for example) and the club has done really well to keep national league status for so long

PSD in the women's 400 hurdles is the main one to look out for (Green looks out of sorts in the men's).

If KJT had got closer to her PB in the Shot, I reckon she could have sneaked a medal... As it is, I reckon she'll finish 5th, which is a fair effort.

Think is the final of the men's 800 as well. Osagie is in the final, but I think he will always be a nearly man. Yanks looking strong.

Mo goes in the heat of the 5k in the morning, should be a parade for the final really
