Amazing facts, nobody believes

Haven't logged on for a few days and thought I would see what the responses were.

Not sure everyone really understood the point.

Some interesting facts but all of them I could believe after a second of processing in my brain.

So, does anyone have an amazing fact that is so amazing that people never believe you? Or have you heard something that you still don't believe, many years after hearing it?

Back over to you, pretty sure this thread is dead now but we'll see....

It's one of theose mind blowing things that nobody believes.

Here is another one : fold a piece of paper in half 30 times (or cut in half, then put one of the halves on top and do it again and again).

It will be thick enough to reach the moon.

No bull, get a calculator and start doubling those numbers!

Got an amazing fact? Please share

I don't believe it at all. A piece of paper (no matter how small or large) cannot be folded in half more than seven times. Where's the source of this claim?

But could be cut in half 30 times? Only if you had very good eyesight and an extremely fine pair of scissors I'd guess.

I know a piece of paper can't be folded in half more than 7 times but it CAN be cut in half and one of the halves put back on top and then the process repeated.

If you double 0.1mm (rough guess at the thickness of a piece of paper) 30 times you get a massive number.

It is true, we worked it out when we studied maths at school.

Okay then, here's some odd ones.
No idea as to the source.

* A cockroach can live for several weaks with its head cut off.

* Human thigh bones are stronger than concrete.

* Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.

* The average lead pencil will draw a line 35 miles long.

* What we call French-kissing over here, the French call English kissing.

* The Bible is the world's best-selling book. It is also the most shoplifted.

What is the longest word that can be made using only one line of your keyboard?

Strange but true ..........."Typewriter"

A few more...

It is impossible for anyone to verbally count up to the number 1 trillion.

111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321.

The word "listen" contains the same letters as the word "silent".

Now the cockroach thing I don't believe! How would it know what to do or decide what to do next?

Well the 'fact' is that it can LIVE on for a couple of weeks. That doesn't mean it knows what to do or how to do it. Pretty much like your average Orient fan really.

Come to think of it... Orient... Cockroaches... seems so obvious now!
