Youth Team
...That doesnt rate dougie freedman?

I know im probably going to get slated on here but i really dont care. I think hes lazy, he thinks hes better than everyone else, his attitude stinks..he blames everything on everybody else apart from himself. He cant even be on the pitch a full game without getting injured. Yes he shows he can do the occasional good touch/pass. But i dont think that merits him a place in the 1st team. Discuss...

Staggered. Absolutely staggered. Especially by the bolded point. :stunned:

Don't think you will get slated, but perhaps strongly disagreed with.

This debate has been had recently, and I think the statistics that were produced showing that we take far more points with Dougie in the side than without, added to the praise he gets from other players about how he helps them with his game won the day hands down.

This is Goat De Ja Vue!

i think freeman is valuable to the team, his experience is something to pass onto the younsters like robinson and they seemed to of formed a good partnership..not many players of his age play week in week out & are likely to get injuries which take time to recover from, but when he plays we look a different team & thats the important team..why do people try to put a downer on certain players?why doesnt everyone just get behind the players??

What I can never understand is why it has to be all or nothing for some people with certain players. What you get from Dougie Freedman is an aging player with some great skills and experience which means you have to take the rough with the smooth. If he was still at his peak, he wouldn't be playing here.

His skills and vision can produce that defence splitting pass but he's not going to chase down too many balls that are a long way ahead of him. His movement is among the best in the team but he's not going to win many full-blooded 50-50 tackles. He always wants the ball and makes space to receive it but if you don't give it to him exactly where he needs it, it's a wasted ball.

For those reasons, there'll always be areas to find fault, but I think it's crazy to question his attitude.

For me, he won't always be the first name on the team sheet but he does give us something different and I'm certainly glad he's in the squad.

I would say that he's underperforming recently, quite a few misplaced passes n the like, however to say his attitude stinks is totally off, he's a quality head to have in the dressing room and really helps the youth, as O'Keefe has said.

He doesn't seem to be able to work with Theo, although Barney and Theo were dynamite together.

Well you're obviously not the only one; but you appear to be in a very, very small minority on this one.

I won't slate you for voicing an opinion. I would though like to see some evidence to back up your assertions. About the only one I'd accept would be his injury record. I'd not noticed a stinky attitude, nor laziness (he does though need to conserve his energy for when it matters most); nor really any overly demonstrated arrogance (bearing in mind he's a professional football player, and a striker too, so a certain amount of arrogance goes with the territory).

As for him "thinking he's better than everybody else", I assume you're referring to him telling other players where to run and when to play the ball. I think you'll find that's exactly what Tilly wants him to do; how we are going to exploit all Dougie's experience.

We have a lot of young players who will benefit massively from being able to learn from a player like Dougie. I hope we find another like him to carry on in the same vein when he decides to hang up his boots.

I can only suggest that both you and SS2-blue actually WATCH Freedman for 10 minutes next time he plays.

The guys off the ball work is a total class above anything we currently have.

He is the only creative outlet we have and when he plays we get more points than when he doesn't.

I think what you are seeing is a man struggling with fitness at an age where every knock takes longer to heal. I was talking about him the other day to someone and we were discussing if we think we would be anywhere different if we had offered him the contract he wanted. I am really not sure.

What you have though is a fantastic pro who will help the youngsters and team-mates so much doing his time with you. He spent alot of time with Beckford and we have seen the benefit of what was passed onto him.

The reason im saying about his attitude, which is what most of you seem to be questionning is that in my opinion he thinks he is the dogs bollocks and above everybody else, if he does something wrong he stands there, looks at everybody else and starts dishing out his orders instead of trying to chase it down himself. Now i understand hes using his experience but its another thing when youre screaming at players especially the young ones, because it makes them less confident. Even against crewe he was screaming his head off at a ball boy (who looked about 8) beacuse he threw the ball to the wrong person.

I saw this incident, and while I admit he gave the kid the real evil eye, I didn't see him "screaming his head off". What I believe he said is "what did you do that for?" - hardly the same thing. My son had the priviledge of presenting him with his Player of the Month award back in October, and he was absolutely charming, I've seen nothing to back up any claims of an attitude that "stinks", just an experienced professional, willing to encourage and direct younger less experienced players, who, as far as I've seen, are more than happy to listen to him.

He is underperforming and is not fully fit but i completely disagree with you.
