If this statement is true then Adam Barrett has gone massively down in my estimations. I thought he bleeds blue blood, we shall soon see when he plays for Palace. See if he does a Rooney and starts kissing the badge.

I think too many people got hung up on him 'bleeding blue'. He might have been local and come to a few games, but wasn't he also a West Ham fan?

Well according to Simon Thomas on SSN when interviewing Ron Martin, that's what Southend United fan's second team is.

It's on the suns website under the championship section and is apparently a direct quote from barrett.

Says he should have probably l left as he went stale.

People say "Oh, it's only The Sun..." but their sports coverage, in direct contrast to the rest of the rag, is very good. Although understandable under the circumstances, it's very disappointing to hear from a club captain who apparently pledged such support to the cause and he has, if only slightly, gone down in my estimations. He could've just said "Yeah, it obviously wasn't working that and I've left at the right time."

He's right though isn't he? Colchester were supposed to be interested in him a few years back and despite bleeding Blue, he did become stale. Why are people criticising him for this? He's making an honest assessment, and we all do the "should've done that years ago" thing.

Hmm, i wonder what people would have said if Macca had come out with a direct quote like that in the Sun? The hate mob would be on him like a tonne of bricks but because it is Mr over rated , it must be miss quotes from the paper, and Ahh bless he went stale.....For christ sake the guy was for the most part earning nigh on 3 k a week. for 3 years and still people cant see he dont give two ***** about Southend like the rest who left, lets see how many goals the team ships with out captain marvel and his over paid motley crew!

I agree with him, he should have left a couple of years ago, as he was crap in the last few season.

When Col Ewe offered £500k for him, we should have bitten their arm off.

It would seem that Adam feels that he should have left us after our relegation from the championship....the division in which he was shown up to be a very average footballer! Don't get me wrong, a big heart and and bags of determintion/ self belief can take you a long way and he was a great role model for our club......but I was amazed that a Championship club has taken him on. Adam and Peter Clarke were two of the main reasons why we failed to stay in that league. I can still see Kenwyn Jones rising high above Barrett at the back post to head home the fourth goal to complete their 4-1 victory over us in the last game of that chamionship season. Men against boys......
Barrett is League 1 standard at best IMO

If anything it shows that he stayed even though he knew he should have been moving on for the sake of his career. Would he have stayed anywhere else when he knew had the chance to play in the Championship?

There was always a buzz going around that he was lined up for an eventual role in the Management Team as I recall.
When it all started going badly wrong and he and the others were not getting paid I guess he saw the writing on the wall and adjusted his horizons.Shame that he's said that though. He was also past his best I feel and I fear he will get well and truly found out in due course this season.

Don't be ridiculous, there is absolutely nothing Judas like in that article or in his behaviour.
