I was not at today's game so I cannot comment specifically on the match, but there are a couple of bits which stand out for me.

he is clearly targeting one player that he doesnt like, and that is Jay Smith.
When he starts performing well in the reserves maybe he will get a chance in the first team.  To say the reason he is not playing him because he 'dislikes him' is ridiculous.  Gutts clearly needs to be dropped and I don't think I have ever seen such agreement on the board on one players bad form, but I personally do not think Jay will be the saviour which many people are making out.

Tilly is most definitely not beyond criticism and I too thought the substitutions were strange until I heard the reasoning behind them.  However, I am sure he knows he needs to turn things around.  I really really hope no-one starts calling for his head though.  From reading todays views I think there is that distinct possibility now.

To say Burnley are average side is a little extreme if looked at the league table. On current form I am just glad we did not go up there and get stuff 6 nil!  Let's still cling on to the hope from that performance.

One of the first things Tilly said after the game in his interview was about using loans, and also said it during the week too.  So I wouldn't go moaning about money etc because no-one has even mentioned that as a reason!

Enjoy it! Enjoy what exactly?

I paid good, hard earned money for my seaso and I'll be damned if I'm going to sit back and just accept being beaten 3 -1 by a mediocre side because our players didn't do what they are paid damn good money to do.

3 years ago is exactly what it is.....3 years ago. Drop the argument, it means diddly squat now and if your quite content to sit back and accept inept performances and enjoy it because we happen to be playing the likes of Leeds, Sunderland, West Brom etc then yours is the type of support the club could well do without.

Being beaten by superior teams whilst playing well with commitment ourselves I can accept and to a certain extent enjoy. Being beaten by an average team because the players we have lack the desire and skill to perform (on the day) to compete at this level I can't and will not accept, and certainly will not enjoy.

At the time I felt this was the biggest mistake of Tilly's reign so far, I think the more time goes, the more I think this is the case and maybe it is just further highlighted at the present time because of Gutts poor form.

Cut that argument out straight away. SUFC needs all support, and they need as much positive support as possible as we go into this crunch period.

Wow, I should be a fisherman. Of course we need to improve. I know that, and the last two home games have been the first games ive seen since QPR. I just feel that considering the resources we have, (without spending mega bucks we dont have and getting further in debt) that we will be lucky to survive in the first place.

I get the feeling, and this isn't aimed at you, or anyone in particular, that because we've been promoted twice, we should expect a third.

Quote[/b] (Kenny @ Oct. 21 2006,19:13)]Basically last season we won the league with a side that was tipped to finish lower mid table in League One. I think in a very strange way getting promoted last season was the worst thing to happen to us. We probably could have done with a couple of years to assemble a squad that would get us promoted and be ready to compete at this level. We still have quite a lot of the players that have been around since the League 2 days and its becoming moer apprent that a few of them aren't upto this level.
Spot on Kenny. Look at how Col U are doing tells its own story. Our team is essentially stilll a League 2 side, we are punching above our own weight.
One thing I must disagree with you Richard. People keep saying such and such team is poor. These teams are quality, packed full of ex prem players. Guttridge was up against Legwinski and Noble, 2 very good players. Our players are doing their best but their best isnt good enough. The quality into the box, the finishing, the defending has to be top notch to beat these teams and we arent quite there at the moment.

Chadded eluded to the fact, or at least gave the impression, he watches the game, couldn't care less whether we win or lose and just enjoys it because its the CCC.......well, that's the way I read it.

Doesn't matter now anyway, he was fishing (apparently)

Of course I care, but I just can't see why everyone is so concerned. If we are honest, taking the size of the club into account, we are punching well above our weight. Sure, we arent doing too well, but I know I expected us to really struggle this year.

I will admit though, that yes, I am enjoying just watching Southend at the moment, as since April, I've seen five games, missed the promotion party for the second year running, and just got back from 6 months in the World's premier holiday destination (See signature).

I think you have been overly harsh with several of your assessments. Of course it's disappointing but definitely harsh in several places. Francis with the worst first touch you've ever seen? Christ, one name mentioned on here who perhaps shouldn't have been released in the summer had a much poorer touch.

i was really upset today i thought we was going to win today but the team is not good enough we have no goals in the side apart from eastwood the midfield is relly poor at the moment i like gutteridge the last 2 seasons hes been great but the step up in class looks to much for him the only one playing better than i thought he would is maher whose been playing well apart from today

Or a Bentley type midfielder who is not afraid to get in amongst it and put himself about a bit. He was often criticised for lack of ability but you could never question his commitment

Personally I agree that Jay will probably never be the force he once was.  And I think RC is probably over egging the personal dislike factor, but who knows it has happened with other managers.

But I think you're ignoring the basic point RC was making and pretty well agreeing with him in that, if Jay can't get on that pitch today when will he ever get on?  The midfield today was all over the place.  Personally it made sense to me at 3-0 down to give Jay & Efe a run out to give them match time & see what stage of the season they're at.  But no, we end up with a defensive midfield player & a defender in the engine room.  It won't work long term so why do it?

To be frank if Jay can't get on the pitch today, it's time for him to move on.  Sad day though it'll be I can't see any other option.

Agree about Jay. That said, it's a mystifying thought that he should be getting a contract extension when there is no plan to play him. Given that we haven't got anyone else in to play midfield, the whole situation seems inexplicable.

I don't think it helps that we have a midfield of oompah-loompahs - where is there any kind of physical presence? Hopefully the Blues will come good sooner than later, but I guess it's a case of fingers crossed for now

Although Francis scored, i cannot comprehend what he was doing up front. Why at 3-0 down would you take a striker off for a Centre Back!

Also, the third goal was a sham, how comes 9,000 of us (and i was in a 'restriced view' seat!) could see that bloke running the length of the pitch totally and uttery un-marked, yet 10 pro's miss him!!??!!

Dear oh dear, at a very druken state at this time in the morning i cannot believe what i saw today(yesterday). 12 goals conceded in 4 home goals spells one thing, Leage 1!

I've never witnessed a relegation season before but this looks like one to me so far. 52 points looks like a long way away to me. I, like most cannot believe jay has not had a chance yet! Gutts should be replaced with jay, lets see what he can do in this division. Apart from freddy what striker do we have that is good enough for this divison!!

I cannot believe the first half, so slow and quite frankly just boring!

Keep the faith, help!
