A word for the fans...

I was sitting in the East stand middle tier and the sight and sound of our fans was awesome. Even a group of Chelski fans paid tribute to our fantastic support at the end of the match after I was 'sussed' after we scored our goal. They said our support was superb, the best they had seen for years and actually wished us luck in the replay!! In all honesty I do think these fans were 'corporate fans' but still decent of them to comment on our excellent support.

I sat in the right hand corner of the lower.. not the greatest of atmospheres yet wasn't at all bad. Great effort by the blue voice once again with all those flags, it looked brilliant. Should have sold those flags for money I would definately have been willing to hand some over some money for one.

The chelsea fan were awful! Even when they scored they weren't chanting, clapping etc. I loved it when we scored, it was amazing. Everyone who was there and singing their hearts out for the lads can give themselves a well deserved pat on the back.

I actually thought this was a really respectful game on both the players' and the fans' parts. Liked the comments in the programme, and the fact big Bill Garner was on the pitch at half time.

What did Tim Lovejoy have to say for himself in the programme?

Posted a few pics here but as my other thread got deleted I haven't bothered posting them all.

Several Chelsea fans congratuled us on the way back to the coach. But I think my lasting memory other than the mental celebrations for the goal, was the way that almost the entire Chelsea block next to us in the corner seemed to be more interested in the noise we were making than Chelsea slow build up play. They seemed mystified as we waved our flags and sang with ten minutes to go although at the time we we loosing and being outplayed . A proud day indeed to be a shrimper. A big thank you to all the Blues Voice and their efforts.

What did Tim Lovejoy have to say for himself in the programme?

He described us as "a team I have affection for and reason to be slightly scared of, too".

He explains how, when he first started working for Sky Sports, he had to predict a team to be relegated from each division. He picked us for our division, purely and simply because we were one of the first teams that came into his head. He said this led to Southend fans dedicating a section of one of their fanzines to having a go at him.

So he used his column to apologise and said he meant nothing against us, but that he does always keep an eye out for our progress and he wished us the best in the future, "except for today when I hope they get knocked out of the Cup!"

Yh, thanks, quite a good column I thought!

One of my highlights of today was all the singing in the Slug. Tequila by Terrorvision then came on and the nice looking barmaids got up on the bar and started pouring tequila down peoples throats. Can't say I've seen a pub so keen to get the away fans even more drunk before the game!

The barmaids there were hot!

I can understand CHelsea fans saying we were quiet, they probably couldnt hear as much at the opposite end of the ground. I was at the back of the lower tier so dont know what it was like in the upper tier, it was one of those cases where we werent all in unison.

as i said before i think the poor atmosphere (in the lower not sure about upper) was down to all the fans being split in 2,and the blue voice would have been better in lower tear behind goal,so the noise would have been created from the centre?
