How naive. Wouldn't you agree that a WINNING team on the pitch is the only way to "see us pushing for a top half finish at least". A new owner and stadium does NOT guarantee such ...

WS
Of course but how do you get a winning team ?

A new stadium and a good owner who runs the club correctly something we haven't had for a while (well at least without the debt)

Im not confident in this team getting out of this division, im sorry but whils't i agree there are some positive signs i feel there are quite a few better teams at the moment.

I am certainly not saying a new owner and stadium will make put a good team out but it certainly gives us more of a platform if you like.
Go back a few years... to the peak of SUFC's league success.

We were promoted to the old Div. 1... we were within reaching distance of the Premier! we had some fantastic players.

At the time of building this success, we did not have:

1. A new stadium

2. A good owner who ran the club correctly

3. We were not 'debt free'

So...

4. we did not have a 'platform'.

In a way, success the year befiore it all happened didn't seem any closer than it does to us now... and that's something that gives me hope!

God knows what brings success... if anybody did... it would be so easy to acheive it. I firmly believe Jobson got lucky once... and maybe we'll get lucky again.

All we can do is keep trying... but the above points really blow your arguement clean out of the water, luke.

Indeed. We had a WINNING TEAM on the pitch!

I think Luke understands that a winning team on the pitch ultimately brings success, but he's mistaken in thinking a new ground etc. is directly linked to it happening.

The new stadium affect should anyway put a bit on the gate, im not saying thousands but what im saying is a new stadium could really put this club in a better position.
A winning team "should put a bit on the gate" though, Luke.

And if we don't get a winning team, we'll have a stadium with excellent Conference-ing facilities. Or not, as they case may be ...

A new stadium will not guarantee millions suddenly being available for new players (or even thousands). It may write off our debt (or so Ron Martin has claimed) but where is the money going to come from?

WS
Mike, of course nothing beats a winning team but other factors can help get that and increase the gates. The revenue from a new stadium should exceed that of RH and should create more funds for the manager to get that winning team.

But like I pointed out, Luke... even if we had a new stadium... and if that meant more money... and if that added income were to be put towards team building... that would not mean we would have success on the pitch to push for a top half and beyond.

We have shown in the past (as have other teams) that:

1) we can enjoy success without money... without a new stadium... without a 'good owner' (not a reflection or comment on Martin, but on Jobson)

2) that having money to spend on players can result in failure as well as success.

I think you're drifting from the point.

The tenure of Ronnie Whelan highlights that point perfectly.

However the increased revenue might also be required to cover costs incurred by accommodating your increased attendances, Luke.

Well, lets agree to disagree but i think we are all agreed in saying a winning team will put bums on seats these family days are good but they will never put bums on seats as long as the football is as poor as it is.
