2nd Test

Thing that worries me is people keep banging on about Broad's all round potential but he shouldn't pursue it to the detriment of his bowling. An all rounder in a test team still needs to be a test class bowler and Broad has some work to do yet. Undoubtedly a great talent though.

Agree with YB, with the frailties in batting I think Prior has to be given another go. If he can make runs it should make up for any wicket keeping deficiencies.

agreed, i don't think he is any worse with the gloves than ambrose, who is a bit of a one trick pony with the bat

I find it strange that England have been lambasted for their poor show this week, but 95% of the teams being selected on here is the team .. with just the odd different selection in place of Pattinson

foster has to come in and i would bat him just after freddie, although it has been said his inclusion upset the team battings order at headingley.

I think Pattinson and Ambrose are the two changes most are making and not sure anyone is championing their cause.

Yeah i guess i kind of forgot about Ambrose (easy to do i think !!!), but the other 9 were pretty consistant picks, are 2 new players going to make that much difference to a team that has played well on 2 or 3 days out of 9 during this series so far ??

yes. ambrose is ****e and Pattinson probably bowled at me and you in your back garden so anyone is an improvement.

I think the Ambrose situation is more important than the Pattinson one personally.

Having Ambrose at 6 imbalances the whole thing. It was clear to me that Vaughan had no faith in him going in at 6 as he had to censor himself someone in one of his pre-game interviews once the line up was announced. Having someone incapable at 6 puts the other top 5 under pressure, and will reduce our strongish 7 and 8 to cameo's and batting with the tail. I think getting someone more capable with the bat (or gloves) then him would add better balance to the whole team in addition to being a one player swap.

The Pattinson change will just be more of a case of swapping one player for another to slightly improve the team. He bowled 'ok' and he seemed pretty average and no doubt did a job similar to if someone like Kabir Ali, Plunkett or the like had played. Would still have chosen someone who has done it at test level before though like someone from our ashes line up.
