Just been watching some highlights, fan-bloody-tastic!! Fair play to the American side for coming back so strongly and to Corey Pavin being such a gracious loser. I was going to ask people's thoughts on Europe's captain in 2012, but Monty seems convinced that it will be Jose Maria Olazabal.

Yep Olly is the obvious candidate, one of our best Ryder cup players of all time, am sure he will do a great job, although the Yanks have shown theyve got some very good young players.

Great days golf, infact a great weekends golf. Some very high quality stuff played in some tricky conditions.

Well done Europe, thought the senior pros Westwood, Donald, Poulter and Jimenez really led from the front.

For the Americans was really impressed with Stricker, Cink & Fowler.

Monty very humble in victory, and Pavin very gracious in defeat.

I would imagine the next three captains will be;

Jose Maria Olazabal
Paul McGinlay
Darren Clarke

I think Sandy Lyle will never get the opportunity to captain. Think his stunt of walking off at the Open Championship couple of years ago really cheesed off a few senior bods and quite rightly.

I'm undecided on Thomas Bjorn, obviously well up there with the senior pro's but don't really see him as inspiring captain material.

The Times did ratings for every player today. Now, can someone who knows more about golf than me (a passing child, or maybe a hamster) please explain this.

Martin Kaymer (2.5pts) - 5/10
Francesco Molinari (0.5pts) - 6/10

What's that all about?

France, Holland, Spain, Portugal and Germany are all bidding for 2018, though i'm unsure if they have particular courses already lined up or if its just the associations throwing their hats in the ring at this stage

Much was expected of Kaymer and he really failed to deliver.

In the two fourballs he only won two holes and was carried by some excellent play from Westwood and Poulter and he didn't contribute too much in the foursomes with Westwood either. The he was obliterated by Johnson in the singles. True, Johnson hit 5 birdies in a row to win it but Kaymer had already let the match slip with three early bogeys.

Molinari was actually 4 under when his match with Woods finished, he was just unlucky to come up against a Tiger who looked back to his old self. His approach to 18 to get the half on Sunday was an immense shot under pressure and turned out to be vital.

Molinari is an excellent prospect - not sure about Kaymer at all.
If Molinari F could putt he'd be right up there, his iron play is excellent.

Don't think you can really say that about Kaymer though, he did win the US PGA!

Kaymer's been largely excellent on the tour this season, but went to pot over the weekend it has to be said.

I'm more excited about Manassero, to be honest... You get the impression that over the next decade it'll be something of a straight slug between Kaymer/McIlroy/Manassero and Fowler/Kim/That other one.
