2008 Eurovision Song Contest

Have not followed this at all this year as it is becoming a joke!
Who was our artist?

Andy Abraham - think he came second or won the x factor about 2 years ago. Seeing as i'm not a massive fan of the type of music he sings, I thought it was quite catchy and he performed it really well last night.

This so called "competition" is a complete farce in every way and we should withdraw from it with immediate effect to show our complete and utter contempt for the carve up that it has now become.

We dont really get much of it over here but knew straight away where we would finish. Dont see the point of us being in there - costs money to back it, find a singer, send them to were ever god forsaken country is hosting it only for us to once again come back home with the dreaded Nill Points ringning in our ears. There is only one good thing about Eurovision is Sir Terry. The day he retires is the day we should say see you later Europe.

Despite the block voting and corruption and regardless of Terry Wogan - musicians will still climb over the bodies of their dead grandmothers to represent the UK even if they end up last - exposure on Europe-wide TV is like gold-dust!

If I were Andy Abrahams, I'd have taken exposure (and appreciation) at RH for a family day over exposure (and humiliation) on tv any day!

I think he went into it with eyes open... he'll now tour cruise ships, Butlins and minor concert venues and make a tidy sum doing something he loves, and good luck to him. He was never going to be the next Al Green because he hasn't got the talent to be anything else but a voice.

I heard Timbaland produced one of the entries this year and, considering he doesn't get out of bed for less than $250,000 these days, it must've meant some serious money was behind it.

Russia spent 500,000 Euros on their entry.

As for voting, yep, it is a joke. Also remember that, whilst people cannot vote for their own country when IN their own country, they can when they are in another country.

Seeing as the UK is rife with so many nationalities taking part, imagine how many 'UK' votes were used for 'home voting'. Why do you think Turkey get so many points from Germany?

Their are far fewer UK nationals living elsewhere that actually give a toss about voting for the UK.

Agree with Terry Wogan's comments - it's a farce. We need to boycott it and withdraw our funding and force Eurovision to have a compete overhaul of the voting system and regulate who can take part in the contest and the voting (too many Balkan/Soviet Bloc states).

I can understand the low points total for UK last year - the entry made me vom - but this year i can't understand it. That Russian entry that won was a gigantic ****, and without being anything like a potential numer 1 single, i thought that Andy Abraham's song was better than maybe all but 2 or 3 of the other entries.

quite pleased with myself... wrote down the songs i liked... Armenia, Iceland, Ukraine, Sweden, Greece, Russia and Norway, and of those Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Armenia and Norway made up the top 5... thanks to TTK for the Russia tip!
