Cheers.[b said:Quote[/b] (shooter mcgavin @ Dec. 14 2005,08:37)]I'm sure The General will agree with this, but the whole album is immense and "The Great Escape" is possibly one of the weaker songs on the album. "Nobody move, nobody get hurt" for instance (the opening track) is superb, as is "Cashcow".[b said:Quote[/b] (Andy_S @ Dec. 13 2005,19:33)]I've got "The Great Escape" and I think it's quality. As I really like that would you recommend getting the full album?[b said:Quote[/b] (The General @ Dec. 13 2005,14:44)]2. We are Scientists - Love & Squalor
All a matter of opinion, but I highly recommend it.
aherm...I'll think you'll find Artful Shrimper was the second person to say Babyshambles[b said:Quote[/b] (shrimperman @ Dec. 14 2005,13:16)]thats interesting, i think the first person to mention babyshambles, considering how much publicity they have had this year and the quality of music they have produced
You cheeky young pup you!![b said:Quote[/b] (The General @ Dec. 14 2005,12:14)]Jeez you've got quite good taste for an old bloke, Gav!
Yes, go get Love & Squalor. Mainly down to the pink C.D but partially down to the excellent album. Cashcow & Its a Hit are just 2 of the great songs, along with "TGE" and "NM, NGH".
Gunna have to get Death from Above' album by looks of it as well.
Kev
Forgot about The White Stripes album....may have to bump The Subways down to 6th place to accomodate them in the Top 5.[b said:Quote[/b] (Ron Manager @ Dec. 13 2005,20:09)]I like, some gushing Belle & Sebastian reviews tucked away on that site which clearly indicates immaculate taste![b said:Quote[/b] (loz @ Dec. 12 2005,12:38)]PLUG ALERT: many more exciting lists such as this, and lots of other music stuff can be had at www.tohellwith.co.uk - the music zine that emerged from a drunken conversation at the brush. there's at least 3 shrimpers on the 'staff', feel free to pop by.
As for top 5 albums in 2005 (in no particular order but probably with Mr Doherty at number one).....
Babyshambles - Down In Albion
The Subways - Young For Eternity
Sons And Daughters - The Repulsion Box
Willy Mason - Where The Humans Eat
The Magic Numbers - The Magic Numbers
But the band of 2005, without a doubt, are The Arctic Monkeys...in just a small taster of their upcoming world domination!
Is this the Japanese band that make a hell of a lot of noise in a groovy stoner rock kinda way? Heard some cool stuff about them, but yet to check them out.....any tips?[b said:Quote[/b] (hexagon_sun @ Dec. 16 2005,10:34)]then I'd have Boris "Akuma No Uta" at 5 instead.
Yep, that's them. Where to start depends on your taste - some of their albums are just droney noise, some are ridiculously loud doom metal and others are a bit more 70s rock/stoner rock. "Akuma No Uta" is a great starting point as it pretty much showcases everything they do and is (for the most part) very listenable. My other 2 favourites are "Amplifier Worship" and "Heavy Rocks". If you have trouble tracking this stuff down shoot me a PM and I'll sort you out.[b said:Quote[/b] (shooter mcgavin @ Dec. 19 2005,13:29)]Is this the Japanese band that make a hell of a lot of noise in a groovy stoner rock kinda way? Not really into "droney noise", but I love 70's style blues/stoner/doom whatever you want to call it. Really into Fu Manchu, Clutch and the Atomic Bitchwax at the moment.[b said:Quote[/b] (hexagon_sun @ Dec. 19 2005,17:17)]Yep, that's them.
