My top 5 Downloads

Goldfrapp
BabyShambles
Kaiser Chefs
The Rakes
Kate Bush's weird new one.

thats interesting, i think the first person to mention babyshambles, considering how much publicity they have had this year and the quality of music they have produced

Not sure about a Top Five, but I was absolutely blown away by the debut album from The Subways. Highly recommended to anyone who likes their rock served raw. Not 'alf, pop-pickers.

I've got "The Great Escape" and I think it's quality. As I really like that would you recommend getting the full album?

I'm sure The General will agree with this, but the whole album is immense and "The Great Escape" is possibly one of the weaker songs on the album. "Nobody move, nobody get hurt" for instance (the opening track) is superb, as is "Cashcow".

All a matter of opinion, but I highly recommend it.
Cheers.

I'm in the process of downloading it now to escape the pink disc.

Yes, go get Love & Squalor. Mainly down to the pink C.D but partially down to the excellent album. Cashcow & Its a Hit are just 2 of the great songs, along with "TGE" and "NM, NGH".

Gunna have to get Death from Above' album by looks of it as well.

Kev
You cheeky young pup you!!

You'll like DFA1979 as the box, cd inlay and cd are all pink. A quality album and an amazing noise made by a two piece band with no guitarists!!

05 - super furry animals - love kraft
04 - sufjan stevens - illinois
03 - daft punk - human after all
02 - broadcast - tender buttons
01 - the clientele - strange geometry

If we're allowing albums that had a UK release in 2005 despite being released elsewhere earlier (looks like we are as a few people have mentioned Arcade Fire's album which came out in the States in 2004) ,then I'd have Boris "Akuma No Uta" at 5 instead.

Have there been 5 really outstanding albums this year? I'm not really sure.
Anyway, I'll pick a top 5. In order.
1) Oceansize - Everyone Into Position
2) Sigur Ros - Takk
3) The Magic Numbers - The Magic Numbers
4) Iain Archer - Flood The Tanks
5) Bruce Springsteen - Devils and Dust

The reason why no-one has really mentioned Babyshambles is because they are utter arse.
Look out for The Morning After Girls. I have their album and it will shift units next year I think.

I like, some gushing Belle & Sebastian reviews tucked away on that site which clearly indicates immaculate taste!

As for top 5 albums in 2005 (in no particular order but probably with Mr Doherty at number one).....

Babyshambles - Down In Albion
The Subways - Young For Eternity
Sons And Daughters - The Repulsion Box
Willy Mason - Where The Humans Eat
The Magic Numbers - The Magic Numbers

But the band of 2005, without a doubt, are The Arctic Monkeys...in just a small taster of their upcoming world domination!
Forgot about The White Stripes album....may have to bump The Subways down to 6th place to accomodate them in the Top 5.

Is this the Japanese band that make a hell of a lot of noise in a groovy stoner rock kinda way? Heard some cool stuff about them, but yet to check them out.....any tips?

Yep, that's them. Where to start depends on your taste - some of their albums are just droney noise, some are ridiculously loud doom metal and others are a bit more 70s rock/stoner rock. "Akuma No Uta" is a great starting point as it pretty much showcases everything they do and is (for the most part) very listenable. My other 2 favourites are "Amplifier Worship" and "Heavy Rocks". If you have trouble tracking this stuff down shoot me a PM and I'll sort you out.

Not really into "droney noise", but I love 70's style blues/stoner/doom whatever you want to call it. Really into Fu Manchu, Clutch and the Atomic Bitchwax at the moment.

My mate Nash has loads of Boris' stuff, so I'll try hunt some down from him. Thanks for the tips.
