2005 - Top 5 Albums

1. Sigur Ros - Takk
2. Arcade Fire - Funeral
3. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
4. Engineers - Engineers (??? Think that's the title but can't remember!!)
5. Antony & The Johnson's - I Am A Bird Now

With regard to Sigur Ros I cannot recommend this band highly enough! Quite simply the most jaw dropping band I've ever had the pleasure to see!

If i have to listen to another dull Kaiser Chief single i think i might perforate my own eardrum...

John Legend's album was Get Lifted, and thats oneo f my top 5 too actually

Good call CustardSplat.
Sigur Ros are highly under-rated. Takk I believe is the first album they've made with the lyrics in Icelandic whereas all previous albums where in some made-up scandic dialect.
Takk probably misses out on my top5 as it was released so late in the year.

1. death from above 1979- you're a woman, i'm a machine
2. caribou- the milk of human kindness
3. clor- clor
4. moving units- dangerous dreams
5. lcd soundsystem- lcd soundsystem

PLUG ALERT: many more exciting lists such as this, and lots of other music stuff can be had at www.tohellwith.co.uk - the music zine that emerged from a drunken conversation at the brush. there's at least 3 shrimpers on the 'staff', feel free to pop by.

I was at the Brush Saturday and saw plenty of flyers advertising this.
I also tried to speak to Stu about it but never got the chance.
Will definitely check it out though...

ah, coolness- not been there myself for eons, but Stu was one of the founder members and *technically* still writes for us. never get anything from him though, some excuse about having a family to take care of...

Here goes:

1. The Subways - Young for Eternity
2. We are Scientists - Love & Squalor
3. Arcade Fire - Funeral
4. The Departure - Dirty Words
5. Maximo Park - A Certain Trigger

That certainly wasn't easy with the likes of the Editor's, LCD and Duke Spirit all getting in my top 10.

Here's to another great year in 2006 with the likes of Bloc Party, Futureheads and Arctic Monkey's all releasing new albums sooner rather than later.

thank god! had to go all the way to the third page before someone mentioned sigur ros! in no particular order,

sigur ros
hugo gonzales
arcade fire
the subways
the rakes

special mention to kaisers who have been by far the best live band this year and the editors. wouldve have gone for bloc party but most of there album was actually played in 2004 before a long awaited release at the start of this year. blinks greatest hits also worthy of a mention

1) We Are Scientists - With Love and Squalor
2) Death From Above 1979 - You're a woman, I'm a machine
3) Maximo Park - A Certain trigger
4) Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzvah
5) QOTSA - Lullabies to Paralyze

Just my tuppence worth....though it is nice to see that fellow Shrimpers have decent tastes in Music!!

I've got "The Great Escape" and I think it's quality. As I really like that would you recommend getting the full album?

I like, some gushing Belle & Sebastian reviews tucked away on that site which clearly indicates immaculate taste!

As for top 5 albums in 2005 (in no particular order but probably with Mr Doherty at number one).....

Babyshambles - Down In Albion
The Subways - Young For Eternity
Sons And Daughters - The Repulsion Box
Willy Mason - Where The Humans Eat
The Magic Numbers - The Magic Numbers

But the band of 2005, without a doubt, are The Arctic Monkeys...in just a small taster of their upcoming world domination!

OASIS - Don't Believe The Trith
THE MAGIC NUMBERS - The Magic Numbers
THE SUBWAYS - Young For Eternity
THE REDWALLS - De Nova
STEOPHONICS - Language, Sex, Violence Other?

Not neccesarily in that order!

I'm sure The General will agree with this, but the whole album is immense and "The Great Escape" is possibly one of the weaker songs on the album. "Nobody move, nobody get hurt" for instance (the opening track) is superb, as is "Cashcow".

All a matter of opinion, but I highly recommend it.

i thought 'the great escape' was quality and immediately brought the album aswell. however, i found that the rest of the album was quite contrasting to this tune. it took me a while before it grew on me but im started to like it and would also recommend buying it

Jeez you've got quite good taste for an old bloke, Gav!

Yes, go get Love & Squalor. Mainly down to the pink C.D but partially down to the excellent album. Cashcow & Its a Hit are just 2 of the great songs, along with "TGE" and "NM, NGH".

Gunna have to get Death from Above' album by looks of it as well.
