Interesting reading. I am sure that Brown has a couple of midfielders lined up (I know because I read it in my tea-leaves this morning ......... ) so as long as we can hang on to most of the players who have had a contract offer, then you could say we are in a reasonable position ..... although a feeling of some gloom remains for some reason.

It must be a tough decision for the 4 who have contract renewal offers, don't sign and don't get paid OR sign and don't get paid.............maybe?:'(

I must admit, im quite surprised Brown is still here. I thought he'd be off at the first sign of trouble ... Mind you, he is free-rolling and can only gain out of his time at RH as if it goes wrong, he will just blame RM (and i cant blame him for that!)

What i can understand he has alrady signed a right back and a striker , well agreement has been made , dosent become official until after this season endsand the new season begins and signings can become official

Signings can be announced now. If we had signed someone it'd be on the OS.

Of those out of contract I wouldn't be overly concerned apart from Timlin if they go and assuming Bentley is here.

I'm assuming Clohessy will go which, though unfortunate, shouldn't be for the likes of us to stand in the way of progress. Unlike others moving within division because they miss Mummy and mushy peas. Tomlin I have to believe will struggle to find a club with his issues which is a bonus for us.

As for new blood. Has the Grant returns rumour gone or is there mileage in it? Have to believe Brown has a couple lined up. That squad isn't a disaster. Ok not a promo squad as it stands but we could be in a lot worse shape. I'd also love to see us turn into a club that bloods youngsters early. Other teams do this and do very well at it. If you're good enough you'll stand the test if not the door is that way.

You can't tell in reserves or youth. I also played alongside players that I was convinced would become pros and also played against players that I was told would be pros and looked utter cack eg Michael Duberry. We were told he was on Chelsea's books and when I played him twice the last thing he looked was a footballer. Making a pro requires more than just raw ability.

Get these kids on the bench. Give them runouts in league games. I trust someone like PB to assess their qualities better than us fans who can almost destroy a budding career on the back of one bad performance.

Refer back to Hooper and work out how many people used to slag Tilly for playing him and then when he became succesful asked why we let him go.

There are only two certainties here. Donut and Maher are legends and Barrett is the most overrated player in SUFC history.

I'd be more than happy with a team full of kids, with a few old pros like Barker, Phillips, Harris, Freddy amongst them. Because of our financial situation, I believe this is what we should have been doing for the past 2-3 seasons. However, in our desperate attempt to get out of this division, it looks like funds were made available (promised !!) for expensive players, wages and probably managers. It's all to do with Ron's stadium ambition. He wants us playing in Div 1 or higher to justify the new stadium and has been gambling with our finances to get there. Nobody needs a 22,000 seater in Div 1 or the conference, so he'll keep wanting to spend on players to ensure we are promotion contenders. To be fair to him though, many fans also like to see us spending on players, aswell. Luggy was allowed to bring some good players in, that must have been sanctioned by Ron, and didn't deliver promotion. Obviously Luggy could argue it's diffcult to sign players when we are under an embargo and to motivate players that get paid late.

The drawback now is, it seems the tank is totally empty and we must have exhausted our borrowing options. I don't think we've got any choice but to create a young team now.

We'd get relegated though wouldn't we? I'd love to see it, but we don't have kids good enough!

You never know. I don't think we've really given them a chance. O'Keefe is a prime example. Wasn't being paid, so went. Bentley is a decent keeper, but never really got an extended run in the side. Now it seems he's good enough for the U21's !
Anyway, it seems like we haven't got any choice now..

With the squad as it is, and the embargo as it is, and the wage situation as it is, who would you have more faith in to operate successfully in these circumstances? PB or PS?
