Following on from Brown's appearance on Talk Sport this morn.

He said "We ARE under Embargo, but as we only have 11 registered players I can still sign another 9. I have recently signed up 4 or 5 young lads to bolster the squad and recommended Dan Bentley to Peter Taylor for the England under 20 squad as 'He can be anything he wants’. We have also just sold a 13 year old to Palace for £37.5k and I want to Cresswell to give us another year, but sometimes once a player has had his head turned it can be difficult"

So we only have 11 registered players, with a few young lads to bolster.

Meaning the FL will allow us special permission to sign some loanees/freebies to fill a matchday squad.

Not sure what that means for all the players out of contract then. Most of them must be off.

No idea if he is including the likes of Auger, Pinnock, Njie etc in that.

I remember last time we was in this mess when Paul took over, the FL confirmed they would allow us to sign enough players to fill a matchday squad, but no more whilst under Embargo.

I presume then that most if not all of the out of contract players have either not been offered a new deal, or they won't sign one if they have.

If that list above is the nucleus of our squad, then christ we are in for another poor season.

Pinnock, Auger and Njie offered pro deals. Agyakwa, Edwards and Tatham offered development contracts. What about Jack Payne and Ted Smith, or have they still got another year to go?

So we're allowed a squad between 18-20. We'd usually operate with a squad of 22-23 so under an embargo we only miss out on signing 2 or 3.

Realistically, why should a League 2 club need a squad of more than 18-20!?

It's good to hear him being refreshingly honest about the situation and explaining that we are able to sign players to make up the squad rather than leaving it rumour and conjuncture on here.

It's not so much the quantity that is the problem as the quality. As it stands we have a lot of injury prone players and some who were frankly **** last season.

Ted Smith has another year to go on his youth contract. If think that they are going to look at Payne in pre season to decide what type of contract to offer him (pro or development).

Im afraid you are wrong. WIth in theory a much better squad of players we finished the season in releagation form. Had the season started in January we would have been relegated. Take into account that basically all of our better players are either leaving or due to leave, the only new players signed are youngsters, i think we are defo in a lot of trouble and in for a relegation battle.

To be fair I said "not likely" I never said definitely. I'm not hugely concerned with relegation but I'm not super-confident either!
