That’s good stuff man.
That’s good stuff man.
Our director of football is now AI.WE NEED A DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL!
It's all well and good having this Money ball approach and having a transfer committee. It stops the club having another Phil Brown situation where we have a squad of players that only he can coach, leading to a mass clear out when the new manager comes in, only for the process to be rinsed and repeated each time.
It doesn't make sense to have a manager only sign who he wants with no structure for the club moving forward.
HOWEVER
Without a director of football, we have noone high up who is qualified to help make decisions.
Kev will go to the board "This is the system we are playing and these are the strengths and weaknesses in the squad" and then balance that against expectations.
John will then send in a report of players that he believes will strengthen Kev's squad
The transfer committee will then do their "Money Ball" check list and then proceed to talk business with the selected targets.
This is where it breaks down.
NOBODY ON THE TRANSFER COMMITTEE KNOWS FOOTBALL!!!!
Not to mention half of the decision makers aren't even in the same continent
Right now it's a mess and just like when we had the em***go, we are missing out on targets.
We are currently functioning like a semi pro team
"Oh sorry we couldn't extend Goldings loan, so and so was on holiday"
(not a fact, just an ironic example / prediction)
We have one. John Still is Head of Football.WE NEED A DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL!

This is how I see it too. This is just a means to narrow down targets.I don’t get what the issue is as nobody’s said anything about us not looking at players, scouting them or Kev not having a say at who comes in. It’s merely another tool to help support recruitment which people have moaned about not being decent enough.
Not true, that was Phil Brown's personal computer. That's why we always used to get 33 year old has beens.Last I heard, the computer to gather data the club were using was Windows 95
As well as that, I don’t think we’ve even implemented it yet fully, based on Tom’s comments. It’ll hopefully help us get some real quality in during the summer. This is how I see it too. This is just a means to narrow down targets.
I don't know how many people are in our scouting team or how deep JS network goes, but there are hundreds of matches every Saturday and we can only really have eyes that are looking out for our clubs best interests at a few of them at best.
They all look like they'd be good at getting on the end of crosses with their fiveheads
This is the point. Yes great let’s follow that path - the proof will be in the outcome and let’s not pre-judge. FWIW my instinct has been the it (incl. Brentford model) has always been the way to go.What seems odd is, why the data approach would slow things down, however good the data available is, it should be there ready to go, maybe we have the data but not a sound analyst of that data or there are differing opinions on which metrics are most important. Surely you’d sort all this out before attempting to implement it.
Completely different rolesWe have one. John Still is Head of Football.
Kev and John are on the transfer committee - so there is football knowledge - granted they're outnumbered by 'board directors'
Have you just made up the process above?

I think people are a bit confused as to what exactly data analysis is, the first part is gathering the data.
Yes there are databases of information available but a big part of it are the metrics that can't be seen by stats alone, how the player will fit into the squad is a massive part of the recruitment process and should not be underestimated.
Scouting plays a big part in gathering the data, just as important as the amount of goals, assists & forward passes is where the player ranks on the cockometer. Everyone is on it somewhere, there position changes hourly, what we need is to avoid another Kensdale situation.
Actually it's probably worth expanding a bit on the Kensdale situation as not only have we lost him as a player but due to his actions and upheaval around it the physiological safety of the squad was torn apart and that is one of the big reasons the squad isn't achieving what they did last season
The data-based approach has worked pretty well for Brighton.
If it's good enough for them..
