Memory Lane Favourite Southend landmark - past or present.

Lions Tea Rooms down the High Street just past the bridge. I remember getting so excited as a six year old being taken there by my father for a Knickerbockerglory and pulling him down the street (before it was pedestrianized) faster and faster as the big clock came into view.

Also

Wonderland just past the Kursaal. Many a happy Saturday spent there on the six lane Scalextric.

Ohhhhhh the memories ;))

Remember the arcades up the pier? They used to be so much better and less tacky than what we have now. And the old pier trains, the big chunky cream and green ones.

Good shout I'd forgotten that Scalextric it was bloody huge.

Or as it was originally called. The Intercon..which I always thought was a rather peculier name .It was attached to The Beer Keller next door where I saw Gary Glitter play a few times to the local kids.....That is a worry in itself now ..

The Old Talza Market for me and the Boating lake on the seafront.

Oh yes i can smell the fuel on those boats now, wonderful memories.

That it was. The whole of the top floor and as a 12 - 13 year old I was absolutely in seventh heaven spending 8+ hours there on a weekend. One of the very few vivid memories I have as a lad is that Scalextric track.

Not sure if anyone remembers it or if it's even still there, but there was a big fake spider on the front of a house in Southend between the Warners Bridge roundabout and the roundabout down by the Motor bike shop, can’t remember the name of the road. I remember it as a kid going in to Southend by car with my mum and dad from Rochford.

The road is probably Manners Way, I live just off that road, but I have never seen a spider, must of been a few years back now!!

Where is Rossi's? Have never been, so wouldn't mind next time am over for a match.

Ice cream's are on me.

Ant, I'm shocked, truly. There are several Rossis kiosks along the front, including one at the bottom of Pier Hill, but as sufc_tom says, the Rossis parlour is along the front, past the Westcliff Casino, below where the Cliffs Pavillion is. You truly must have one, but it has to be one from the tub, not the machine.

I have to say that much as I love Rossis, I do believe that the ice-creams produced by Brymor (those in the North of the country will know the brand I think), are honestly better. Whenever we're in Yorkshire we go to their tea rooms, and eat their ice-cream on the farm where the milk is produced from which it's made.

Rossi's Ice Cream is probably (apart from friends, family and Southend United) the one thing I miss most about home. From a neutral point of view it may not be the best in the world (Cold Rock over here is pretty amazing) but as a Southend boy born and bred it's my favourite.

One of the first things I'm going to do when I get over in October is take a walk along the front to blow away the cobwebs of a long flight and have a Rossi's. I know I'll have one little fan with me in my daughter as she misses them too and I can take my son for his first one ever as well.

It was on the front of the house on the right hand side as you head in to Southend about a third of the way down. The spider was about 5 foot across.

Lets not forget Rossi, the best ice cream in the world.

Correct.

The hot food looks a bit rough though.

I love the Rossi ice cream parlour on the seafront probably the most old skool seaside location left in Southend.

I would like to see something done about the old people that make a cup of tea and a cornet last two hours so I can't sit down with my kids.

Had one from the tub/churn whatever it is at the Airshow, my god it was heaven!!
