Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
Sorry, extremely busy weekend.

Found out late last night that a top left back was close to signing and an announcement that he was leaving his club, as expected this summer, was imminent.

Very local, has played at Basildon United, Hashtag and Chelmsford too. A young player rising up the leagues at speed - would really excel in the left wingback position in our formation. Would be a great signing if we get this one over the line - seems extremely close.
Did you have an educated guess it was Brookes and get it wrong? If so, does that mean we’re still potentially close to signing a top left back, albeit not Brookes?

I'm buoyed by facts that York and FGR spent a huge wodge last season, achieved 96 and 83 points and then finished 2nd and 3rd in the table respectively, but neither made the National League Play-Off final. Money isn't always the answer.

Looks like LS has been frozen out in the great "Stop It's a real shame there never was a documentary about Southend from the takeover days because it would be an absolute corker.

This is giving real Wagatha Christie vibes and I'm absolutely here for it.

It's a real shame there wasnt a documentary from the takeover point to now because it would be an absolute corker

We move on, that is why I don’t like these rumours.View attachment 37641
Plenty of noise coming from from York with them continuing to splash the cash in the transfer market. With wealthy backers and a clear aim of promotion, they’re assembling a squad that on paper looks like it should walk the League.
But here’s the thing, football isn’t played on paper.
Yes, money talks, and yes, they’ve brought in serious talent. But there’s a fine line between building a strong squad and simply amassing names. When you’re dealing with 30+ players all expecting minutes, managing egos becomes just as important as managing tactics. It only takes a couple of disgruntled pros in the stands to affect the atmosphere in the dressing room.
And that’s before you even think about building a team culture. Cohesion and chemistry aren’t instant, they’re earned on the training ground, forged in matches, and often take time. Time that ambitious clubs don’t always have.
Then there’s the target on their back. Every team in this League will see York as a scalp. They won’t just be turning up to matches, their be raising their game. Teams will sit deep, scrap for every ball, and celebrate like they’ve won a cup final if they take a point off them.
If York get it right, fair play they could run away with it. But football is littered with clubs that tried to buy success and found that money only gets you so far.
The pressure’s on them now.

I think we are gonna have to admit that with the money teams like York are throwing at this (don't blame them at all.) we are always gonna be fighting for 4/5th
Yeah, but all these new players will have to gel, which takes time; their manager will have a massive challenge keeping them happy and finding the right formation.

Not to mention, the manager knows he's gone if it doesn't start well. They'll also be the favourites and other clubs will give another 5%.

We have different advantages, but saying that, I still think we've got the signing of the summer so far.

Do they not have any revenue vs spending caps to meet? Or can the ugglas just drop a “sponsorship” or donation?
Not in the national league, one of complaints about the 3up campaign from EFL clubs is that they can get stuck down here due to clubs with 3 fans and spending far more than is sustainable being allowed to do as they wish.

Its an argument I have some sympathy with however the whole finances of football are a mess

Yes keeping things under wraps is the way to go but sometimes it can be frustrating for fans when it appears nothing is happening. Our club keeps things very quiet as regards transfers, we have only signed two players so far but both of them were a surprise, hopefully good ones.........🤞
