Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
We wanted cashman and had advanced talks but the date held it up and Crawley jumped in..

Surely when a player is so far ahead of his level and doesn't command a big fee then it should be down to management and not some algorithm.

We have missed out on a great player. A real game changer.

I've heard that we are close on a certain Bulgarian

They could have got the deal over the line before the other club expressed an interest.

Are people genuinely suggesting we shouldnt be talking about transfers in the close season?

This is what all fans of everyclub do....

I just cannot believe a pro football manager would go on twitter to see basildon blue bob talking about cashman and (having never heard of him before) stick a bid in for lols.

Every manager in the lower leagues knows all about cashman i can guarantee that.

Genuinely cant understand what data was needed this late in the day to confirm he is a good player, and why said data took anything more then 10 minutes to look at.

I expect as usual it came down to either
1. League status
2. Cash
3. Location.

But if it didnt maybe we need to upgrade our carrier pigeon for the data.

Keep the rumours coming i say. Its fun.
Or while interested in coming to us he was always hoping for an offer from a club higher up in the food chain? Who knows?

The target has to be brought to the attention of all concerned. Some have to go to their junk box to find the email, then get their ten year old daughter to explain again how to open the attachment. The data analysis has to be read and after the confusion they have to practice a face that says they understand it. Then they have the voicemail from Kev and after ten minutes of ' if you like' on a loop, they can't be bothered to hear the rest. Piggy banks have to checked and that is always a faff getting the coins out of the hole. After a few shouts of 'how much?' and ' you must be joking', it becomes a game of delaying the reply so the intended target is snapped up by someone else and then the press release saying ' we moved heaven and earth to get him but it wasn't to be.'
Simplez
I thought I was joking

Good morning fellow shrimpers.
Have we all got over Cashman yet?
No. Cashman was the chosen one, guaranteed to lead us to title winning success by Christmas. We were set to become the envy of the footballing world with his signing... and now it's all ruined. RUINED!

What's worse... it's all down to data analytics taking too long, and nothing to do with his hometown EFL club coming in for him, likely with a better wage offer.

Next season is a write-off.

Some thoughts

1) having worked with a few agents it's all about the money for their asset and themselves - I don't believe data got in the way unless it was a reassessment of roi based on a competitive offer
2) data is absolutely the way to go - especially if this is moneyball style. Data plays into building a team that can operate together not a bunch of "stars" (inverted commas due to our NL status)
3) personally will judge at end of the summer and the team that walks out first day of the season and then judge the team results and performances thereafter

I know, I know. This wouldn’t have happened under our last regime!!

I was talking to another IT consultant last night. He is very much in the know when it comes to football data. He told me that Tony Bloom also has a football data company that sells its services to other clubs. The basis of their success is Brighton. Brighton's whole success is based on their data approach to recruitment.

However, regardless of that, you still need to move quickly, and if we didn't move quickly enough we need to tweak our process
