Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
Not disagreeing, but Kev never seems to have more than 4, hence sending Waldron away on loan when Hopper came in.

Just a thought.... Jack Stone may get an opportunity as the 5th choice.....
The last time we fast tracked youngsters from loan spells in the Isthmian North to the first team was the likes of Egbri and Acquah and we all know how that went.

Personally I’d be looking for our youngsters to first experience success in at least the Isthmian Prem but preferably the NLS before considering them for the first team.

Realistically, these are the strenghs we have in areas in my opinion, based on our usualy 3-5-2 formation

Colour coded for ease. Green = is sorted - Yellow = needs improvement - Red = No adequate options/ priority signing

GK
RWB

CB
LWB
CM
CAM

ST

This is obviously as things stand, players could leave, for example, RWB would turn red if GSM leaves

Why would a full preseason benefit him? A preseason is a preparation for the forthcoming season. Bonne has had a whole season to prove he can’t score goals.
He wasn't played as a main striker. He had a great touch, set up goals and defenders certainly knew he was there (except for the play off final where he was admittedly not his best). I think him and Kendall should be kept but Walker and Hopper can be allowed to pursue other opportunities.

You’d imagine there must be some decent prospects in the released lists of a few Premier League academies. KAF was still on the books at West Ham a year ago. Hopefully we keep an eye on U-21s etc.
I’d be more inclined to track the ones who drop into non-league at 19 or 20 and see which ones kick on and then pick them up in a year/18 months’ time.

He wasn't played as a main striker.

Ah the Brandon Goodship argument!

He wasn’t played as the main striker because he wasn’t good enough.

If I were asked to assemble a starting 11 with at least partially realistic transfer targets (some would require fees and are under contract etc, but I'm not suggesting Salah and the like), I'd go for the following:

Colin or Jaaskelainen (from Woking)

GSM (RB) Goodliffe (CB) Taylor (CB) Ralph (LB)

Husin (CDM)
(or Morton/Miley)

Periera (RW) (from Daggers) Shade (LW) (from Eastleigh)

LCP or KAF (CAM)

Cashman (ST) (from Worthing) Davies (ST) (from Sutton)

I've had a think about Goodliffe and now think he will improve and be an asset if we could get him. I also think we should be looking at Louie Annesley, CB from Braintree Town.

Pereira, Shade, Cashman ... yes to all.

Goodliffe gets praise when he had a great game, and he's the worst player ever when he makes a mistake. He shouldn't be written off IMO because of one error. What about the good things he did in the playoff run? Fans forget so quickly. He fits in with the squad and will learn from his mistakes.

Agree. He's definitely made mistakes, but has more than made up for them.

I take it Golding's a no-chance for us, either loan extension or purchase? Not seen him mentioned but have only skimmed through this thread.

From what I've seen of Goodliffe, he's about the same standard as Kensdale was defensively. Both had a lethal mistake or two in their repertoire but, overall, both added value to the defence. My impression is that more than 50% of us regretted having to show Kensdale the door, so should not be unhappy if Goodliffe joined us permanently, if my comparison between them is shared. If we can get someone better than Goodliffe, I'd be all for it, of course.

It wasn’t just one mistake. In the final he was badly exposed (not necessarily solely at fault) for all three goals plus the chance Fondop chipped wide.

Thats an absolute nightmare by anyone’s standards. I’m trying to remember the last time a centre-half had such a disastrous outing - maybe Liam Ridgewell?

But it wasn’t just that game. He was also at fault for Forest Green’s equaliser, for Rochdale’s opener. Remember how Yeovil exposed him.

The role I’d envisaged for him was being our 4th centre half and coming on against the more physical teams but when we needed someone to stand up to Oldham’s physicality he came up short. That’s hugely concerning. He’s not a good fit for us playing out from the back - the two best teams at playing out from the back finished 19 and 13 points above everyone else so that seems very much to be the best way to get results in this league.

Fair and just response.

Think Goodliffe has served us well however, has been found wanting at key moments. Lost a man for one of the goals away at FGR, Lost almost all of his duels against Rodney & Bird against Dale. Was in part responsible for all 3 goals on Sunday. Clear to see why he was bombed out by the Cowley's. He's good against the fodder in this league but not when faced against useful strikers. We can do better IMO and find someone who's more comfortable in possession as well.

The difference is that Kensdale’s main attribute was his ability on the ball in possession and that outweighed his defensive frailties.

With Goodliffe we’d be getting a similar standard defender without the bit that made Kensdale so good.
