Post-Match Thread and Ratings Oldham FC 3-2 Southend Utd

Now the dust has settled, and having read most of the previous 22 pages, I have only a few things to add.
Basics of not enough shots, especially from midfielders.
Dead balls, corners very average before Coker.
Guile/craft with ref very negligable but who knows if he would have given us anything 60/40 anyway; we could have thought on & worked their carded defenders from yellows to red; OA knew Cav was on a card and played that for sure - as we ought to do. .
We changed when Cav went off, Noor was better in that withdrawn role imo & Coker brought energy and positivity; likewise when Joe G came on he did very much okay as left back, and Ralph (working with Leon P) pushed up/left caused lots of problems down that flank, but maybe this also led to our right (and Gus/HT), being overloaded? Wind maybe should have come on for knackered Gus?-was he kept on for pens?
Finishing, or rather not finishing cost us, OA gk had a good game & made his luck.
We had no passengers,
For a non league game it was v good and a credit to the NL; which hopefully will work to the benefit of the 3 up Campaign, (which should be 4 up as it is L2/L1.)

I went on hols on the Monday, so haven't had chance to post.

Overall, I thought it was great match and a fantastic spectacle for that level of the game. Obviously disappointed with the result, but considering where we were at the halfway point of the season, it was a brilliant achievement to even get there in the first place.

Stand out players for me were Husin and Taylor. The others were ok, and Gus a little off his usual standards. Criticism of the referee for being biased towards Oldham is ridiculous. As a former ref myself, I didn't think he had a particularly good game, however I didn't think he was biased. We could have had a yellow / red in the first few mins, and I thought they should have had a stonewall penalty. It just seems these days the way some supporters get over a loss is to blame the ref.

The support from us was outstanding. Yes, there were a few village idiots, but out of 28k you're bound to get some. The Oldham fans myself and my family/friends met were so friendly and were proper football supporters. Perhaps the club should set up a pre-season friendly where we can invite our good friends down to the seaside for a day !

There's been a lot of talk about how strong, Carlisle, York, Rochdale etc will be, but lets not forget how much they'll be fearing the mighty shrimpers. Especially as we've encouraged thousands more fans to join us in the stands.

I'd like to thank Julian and COSU for saving our beloved club and for giving us days like that again. They clearly have a process to their project and i'm sure a Play Off final in their very first season (having still getting over the awful finances from the rat) would have been ahead of their projections

Yes, we lost. But we're Southend Utd. We deal with adversity and come back stronger. Lets turn up in massive numbers again home and away next season and roar the lads onto victory, and get out of this awful league automatically (Wembley is so last year lol)

Anyone had their Programme delivered from Curtis Sport yet? Ordered mine last Wednesday.
I contacted Curtis with a "I paid £3.75 for postage and it's not here!" email. Their response ....
Good morning,
After looking into this for you, I can see that it was the Oldham v Southend Vanarama fixture. As advised online in the product information, this programme was a pre-order due to be shipped June 2nd/3rd hence why you haven't received it yet.
Kind regards"

I don t remember reading about pre-order...but if that's true...my error. At least I will have a prestine copy. But I got the order in and it was confirmed on the Tuesday before. Plenty of time for them to get them delivered. £3.75 is a HUGE cost for such a long postal service period.

I felt the team looked a tad "leggy". We have played more league minutes than any other team in the league. More extra time than Oldham. I think this showed. I thought Hopper was not as effective as he ought to have been. I thought Bonne did not make the same impact as in previous games. He took quite a clattering, and was not a quick after that. There were plenty of tired legs..but BIG hearts to a man. Who honestly thought we would be there? We took the hard route...and I am proud of every member of the team. We do need some improvements in certain positions. Hopefully we can actually sign targets that will improve us this coming season (no embargo) , get a proper pre-season in, get fitness levels up, and work on closing games out (and not just by sitting back). We lost too many points in the last 10 minutes. We go again next season...but have to aim for automatic as champions.

If I recall correctly it said they would try and deliver before match day - but then in the small print it said dispatch due on 2 June!

I've not brought myself to read this or comment as yet, need to settle down for a long stretch to do so.

Who is Julian?

I’m guessing Bonne statistically gets a boost for his part in the lead up to the second goal so he had more impact than Walker who didn’t score or assist.

Husin and Taylor as leading players and Hopper and Hayes as weakest links on the day is about right.
That and Bonne's defensive stats were a little better (two clearances, one tackle, six aerial duels won, where Walker was 0 for all of those stats).

Thanks to both for posting this, save me a job chasing mine today. I never noticed the small print personally I think they took the p*** hoping it actually arrives!

I think that we (Oldham) looked more leggy than you from about 80 minutes all the way through to the start of the second half of ET.

Almost nobody in the Oldham end saw where the equaliser would come from in ET… but then once Norwood produced that moment (after a injury hit two years and many feeling he wasn’t worth the reported wage….but I think he is the only player who could do that) it changed energy levels for both sides.
