Your Journey Home

Took about two hours between leaving Wembley stadium and getting on a train at Wembley Central.

I don’t know what the national league were thinking selling so many tickets when the rail infrastructure was operating at reduced capacity.

Got home in Benfleet at 10pm after a quick pitstop at Pizza Hut and managed to eat six slices whilst walking up Thundersley Park Road.

My journey was a walk to Wembley Central and a train to Bushey. In the car and home for 10 minutes before I took a walk to meet up with a couple of friends (who were at the match) for a beer and curry.

The queue for the train took a long time, but was very orderly. Given my train journey was going North, there were a lot of Oldham fans on the train. There was one that saw us and started trying to give it some. He just kept randomly shouting "Oldham" right at us. The other Oldham fans were getting quite fed up with him in fairness. I was impressed with how well my two sons dealt that arsehole. They just smiled and ignored him. Basically they acted a whole lot more mature than he did, and he was probably in his 30s.

Mind you, it was quite nice to get out of Wembley for some peace and quiet. I had Mr. Loudknowitall sitting right behind me. He didn't shut up from the first whistle to the last.

About 2 minutes before that he was arguing with the guys who stop the flow of people (I’m sure they have a correct title).

White man talking like a black man and then when the transport police took him to one side he started telling them that ‘they’ve come over here, stealing our jobs’……😂

He was simply a scum bag who probably hasn’t even had a job!

I was on the Shrimpers Trust coach which was excellent.

What I couldn’t believe is how it is allowed for all those coaches full of people to be held in an enclosed garage (with engines running) for so long. Had there been a fire there was no escape a la the Manchester aircraft disaster all those Years ago when so many passengers were burnt to death on the airplane. It is a dreadful accident waiting to happen and must surely contravene health and safety regulations.
Yes, really odd that they did that. Our fantastic driver, Laura, told us all our coach was a Euro VI which is the safest for emissions, but certainly they weren't all that type.

Couldn't believe how many people were still running around with no clue what coach they were on - we made sure everyone knew our coach number and where we were parked, and some sensible people also took a photo of the number plate.

We were one of the last to leave, being hemmed in on both sides and stuck behind something clearly waiting, long delays getting away from Wembley and ended up getting to RH about 8.30. Think there were only another 4 in after us.

Didn't fancy queuing at Wembley Stadium after the game - walked around trying to get a signal to get an Uber, finally got one booked on the Harrow Road to Liverpool St. with the world's slowest Uber driver on record - took about 1hr 20mins.

On 2015 C2C to TB - seat in Metro carriage and home by 2120.

I was in a bit of a shock/ale induced stupor after the final whistle. Penned in like cattle for what must have been over an hour queueing to try and get inside Wembley Central. Eventually got on a train that was only going as far as Euston. by this point, incredibly thirsty. stopped at 'whistestop' at Euston station and got fleeced for 4 x tins of cider (£10). Made the 20:23 from Fenchurch with about 30 seconds to spare. Pulled into Tilbury about 21:00 and had never seen so many people in Southend shirts at that station! Purchased some fried chicken which ended up on the floor in civic square as the bag split. At least the local foxes will have had something nice for tea. Got indoors at 21:30 feeling deflated and absolutely ****ing knackered.

Luckily I had a ticket in the club Wembley neutral zone so I could use all pubs. Went in an Oldham pub before the game and the Wetherspoons afterwards where the Oldham fans were friendly
Wembley central was still chaotic but got home after 10

The voyage to Wembley, starting 6am at Toulouse airport went like clockwork. The return wasn't quite as easy. Firstly went to pick up our luggage and took a minute to realised that we'd joined the queue for Wembley Stadium station. I had thought of goiing to an alternative station but my daughter wasn't enthusiastic about an extra ten/ fifteen minutes walk, so we headed for Wembley Central........big mistake!!! Seeing that the entry to the station was only being used as an exit, we were directed to another entry where we saw, shock/horror, what appeared to be about half of Wembley Stadium massed at the end of the road. Belated décision, headed of walking towards Wembley North......so an initial walk of 20mins turned into one of 45 mins.......with a bloody 4kg bag. Belated though it was, by reports on here, It was the right decision. From then on relatively easy-peasy. Off at Paddington, change for tube to Liverpool Street. Walked virtually the length of the train and were very fortunate to find two seats, where kids had the feet up on the seats. First time I've ever done this trip and the first thing I recognised was when we rolled into Barking. Back to Leigh at 20h30. Monday, a walk along the pier, Rossi's ice cream and the afternoon travelling again. X30, which was a real bone-shaker of a trip, to Stansted airport! Ryanair plane at 20h10, which arrived in Toulouse near 23h CET. Driven back to Portet-sur-Garonne where I picked up my car and arrived back in Saint Gaudens not long before 1am. Exhausted and gutted by the result.......but wouldn't have missed It for the world!😁

Stayed in the stadium to applaud our team and management then made my way to the back of the queue at Wembley Stadium. Took a while but eventually got on an empty train and off to marylebone thankfully got a seat! Walk to Baker Street tube, Liverpool street had just missed one so waited for the 20.15 got off Southend East where my son in law picked me up and dropped me at my hotel Premier Inn by Halfway House, showered and basically crashed out. Woke up and the tv was still on (Saving Private Ryan).
Alarm went at 6pm caught 9A bus to Travel Centre, 2 toasted crumpets and a cuppa tea at the Utopia cafe at the top of Heygate Avenue - the best tea and crumpet emporium in town. X30 'express' bus to Stansted takes about 2 hours... through security which took a while then say with packed lunch bought evening before at Liverpool St M&S, Ryanair boarding queue just frenetic..Plane left 10m mins late but landed Limoges 10 mins early (they write a 20 min delay into their schedules), into car drove home got indoors 15.50 my time, 14.50 yours.

Totally knackered but wouldn't have missed it for the world - maybe my last ever chance to see us at Wembley.

God knows why I booked 2 nights in Southend when yesterday I had to get to Stansted for 12.00 noon flight?? Must be getting so so old.... should have booked 2 nights in London area instead.

Oh... and why do all the 30 - 50 year olds from Essex model themselves on Smiffy from Gavin and Stacey?? Just loud mouthy idiots who can only fill a sentence with at least 2 words starting with f and another starting with c?

We go again next season......

you didn`t do to bad coming home our coach was one of the first to leave and we arrived back at roots hall around 815 like you took some time getting out with the wembley traffic

Traveled back to Scotland by train on Monday but very sadly just outside Newcastle someone jumped in front of our train and was killed.
This has really brought me back to earth with a bump having had an amazing day catching up with my two sons at Wembley.
So sad that in desperation someone feels that it's the only solution - way out for them. Cannot stop thinking about the person, family and train driver.
So this morning I watched TV and saw our ministers talking about spending millions if not billions on defenses, I know I should not be political but it's a shame they dont consider spending the money on real people who genuinely need help in our country.
Sorry for sharing this but it's really affected me........
