Post-Match Thread and Ratings Forest Green 2-2 Southend United..We win on Penalites 4-2

Journey to FGR was hell due to a diversion and accident on the m25.

4.5 hours later we arrived at the George.

Mental game.

This club will literally be the death of me. I had so many emotions yesterday that I thought my heart was going to stop at one point. And climbing from the pub to the ground was an experience.

The ground is a bit of a joke really. Limited turnstyles open. Fanzone had run our of vegan burgers.

Inside the ground all that was available was vegan sausage roll, and tea with oatmilk.

The away end was very limited and pretty poor.

The game itself was a tight one. From joy to despair to joy to absolute bedlam.

On the pitch and so many happy faces.

This club means so much to so many and yesterday for a moment I thought about those dark days and the fear of losing this great club and got emotional.

This a club we can be proud of and a club where the fans are at the heart of everything positve.

Enjoy this moment and let's hope there is so much more to come in the next few years.

As for the ratings.

Everyone gets a rare 10.

Bring on oldham

Anyone else find it strange Coterill being in the stand all game? He was mic'ed up talking to Bench constantly! It's not like there ground was Old Trafford it was max 10 rows up lol

One for the statos

I guess Southend will play the most amount of National League (possibly League) football minutes than any other team this season 46 games + 2x120 mins + least another 90.

Lots been talked about the emotion of last night. The pure joy and relief when Gus scored was something I’ve not felt in a long time. Kendall last week came close but that Gus penalty meant that bit more. My mum was with us last week but away on holiday yesterday. She has been to over half the away games this season. Something she had never done before and partly due to my dad psssing away in 2022 from a long battle with dementia. It was him a shrimper for 72 years that got me into Southend and then Ben through me. We are a true Southend family from top to bottom. Due to a **** signal and it being so late I only messaged her by text from the ground although the texts never went through until we were clear of the village. She phoned me at 8 this morning. She didn’t get to sleep until around 2.45 as she was buzzing and watching all the social media stuff. She is 78 years old but simply loves all things Southend. We spoke for around 10 mins but the emotion poured out from both of us. Of course we want to win at Wembley but if not we’ve been on one hell of a ride these past few weeks. Look at the miles travelled and the support.

From Billericay
Gateshead 600 miles 1755 fans
Rochdale 500 miles 1181 fans
FGR 340 miles 757 fans

Boy we deserve Wembley. It will take a brave person to predict what will happen but it just seems to be written in the stars after all we’ve been through that maybe just maybe it’s our time

From the FGR fans forum:

"Southend were a good side and tried to play football, clearly well coached as shown by some of their overlapping and underlapping runs cutting us open. Good luck to them in the final."

"In a more favourable play-off schedule I think we could have beaten Southend. But I can't begrudge Southend or Oldham whichever one of them goes up. This is Southend's fourth season in the NL, and Oldham's third.

It's just galling that we finished so far ahead of them in the league."
