Players Sponsors' Evening - 1st April

Thought last night's sponsors' evening, held for the first time at the Holiday Inn in Basildon, was a very good evening. The food was much improved on what the Cliffs has offered the last few years - a bit more basic, but much more generous portions, served at the right temperature and very tasty. Coffee was also miles better. Venue worked well, with parking overflow in Bas Vegas, not too far too walk. Staff also seemed more able so I thought the venue was a really good choice. Much easier for the players and staff too, many of whom live outside of Southend itself.

Adam Duffill performed at various points during the evening, good as always but too loud in my opinion. For a lot of people, this is their only chance to get to spend time with the players so they want to talk to them, and, at times, it was hard to hear. Comedian compere was good too, we found him quite funny, but didn't feel he was quite right for the evening.

The magician going round before and during the meal was ok, but personally, I thought the one we'd had the last two years was better, but appreciate you need to change things from time to time.

Breaks between main course and dessert and then dessert and coffee meant both the magician and comedian were given plenty of time to entertain.

Players all seemed very relaxed - couple not in attendance, including the Zone's LCP (who, I understand, was unwell), James Golding, Danny Waldron and Jack Wood.

Oh, and I won heads and tails!

We were at the event last night as my husband won the draw on shrimperzone for the sponsorship of Adam Crowther. The meal was very good and a very enjoyable evening. Do agree with old blue lady that the music a little loud. Made it difficult to have a conversation. May I compliment the players on being very approachable. We sat with Adam Crowther and James Morton. Both were very polite and chatty. A credit to the their families and Southend United .

I really do love hearing people say nice things about our players behaviour and willingness to interact with the fans. While not at the dinner last night, me and my son had tickets for the Captains Suite and Directors box for last Saturdays game. We saw Tom Lawrence and Demi from the backroom and coaching team who were more than happy to say hello and chat. At half time we bumped into Kendall and Goulding who seemed genuinely pleased to be asked for a photo. After the match we saw Bridgey and Ralph come through who stopped and chatted with numerous people. Finally, saw Keenan as we left who seemed like a really nice chap even though we literally said just two or three words.

Makes me proud of the club we are. 👍👍

I remember what was the first one for many of these players three years ago at the Cliffs, where the players wouldn't have a drink and didn't seem comfortable. Tuesday night's one was a total contrast, they were having a beer or two and were much more relaxed. Even the loanee players seemed quite at ease.

I hadn't seen that photo @Cricko ! :Thumbs up:

Be interested for the thoughts of anyone who'd been before as to their views on the venue?

I thought the venue, and the food, was an improvement on the Maritime Rooms at the Cliffs.
The players were all happy to engage with the fans and it was a great evening. I sat with Joe Gubbins, he was a fantastic, humble young man - I really hope he continues to improve and stay at the Club.
